Increased interest in e30's...is it just me?

Last night I went to wash my e30. Dude in the next stall had a beat up toyota truck and came over to say the stall I was in ate money like crazy and that he was done so i could use his stall to wash the e30/. He them complimented me saying "nice e30"

then last week, twice within the same week, two different chics in two different locations totally stopped what they were doing to just look at the car. One of them expected me to stop and pick her up (she was freakin hawt too!!) and no, I wasn't in the red light district of Vancouver either.

Really, there's nothing special about my car, it's just a stock e30 with Borbet's on it...very dirty wheels at that...Sure they aren't around much anymore, but really now the car isn't that special

Is there some rap video or tv show or movie with e30's in that all the kiddies are getting excited over that could be causing this that I'm unaware of? does this happen to everyone else?

I've owned this car for about 10 years this March, and I've never encountered this much attention from strangers
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

I cannot add any info on a recent explosion of E30 popularity, but i can say that when people compliment my E30 I feel really really good about my E30 and myself.
              My previous build (currently E30-less)

It could be nothing more than people noticing a well penned design. These days everything looks the same. An E30 will stand out because it looks like a car. Its got a well defined hood, cockpit and trunk, something 99.9% of the cars on the market these days lack (They all look like stationwagons more or less since they have the stupid high rear window and no real defined trunk area.) The E30 is proportional and still a very good looking car.

I think this is just a fantastic looking car. Perhaps a little too low, but overall very sharp.

Its a great looking car from all angles. Sure its been lowered with some aftermarket wheels, but its not crazy.

Wheels aside, this one is sharp as well.

If this one were on 15s or 16s, it would be perfect.

Its just a good looking car. I say take it as a complement and think to your self, "Yeah, that's right I have a cool car in a world of boring ones."

I get a thumbs up everytime i take out the e30. When stopped at a light people crossing always takes a look. It is a nice looking car especially when it's slammed.

I have noticed it locally as well.
It was a quiet day at aircare when I took my M3 through this year, and after I got off the rollers, every single bay "tech" came over and chatted about the car. They all knew what it was and knew things about the e30 chassis itself. I was quite surprised actually

Also, they are not that rare really. There are 7 e30s in my neighbourhood alone, counting my two.

In the 4 years I owned mine I constantly got compliments and comments on it. And it was hardly a "nice" e30 or anything special. I had people spark up a conversation about e30's in general all the time.

My hood and fender do not match my car. My paint is ruined, No interior and I still draw people and get followed to have people ask questions. E30s are awesome/

I've gotten complements many times in an e30, mostly in parking lots leaving or coming back to my car and a few times at gas stations. It's been by all different people too young, old, black, white... I don't think it's a recent thing, but maybe within the past decade with new cars all looking very simular and overly "futuristic" and made to look "fast", even regular family sedans like a camry, kia optima, or hyundai sonata. They look overly-aggressive to attract buyers that want their car to look new and fast.
Not complaining but I think the style of new cars make the vintage style of the e30 (and other boxy 80's styles like the volvo 240, etc.) stand out... in a good way, and that's why people notice them. I really think the e30 is seen as a true "vintage" car now and this is mostly because of its boxy 80's styling and it's contrast to newer car styling. I agree with what blackbirdm3 said above.

My car is nothing special and needs a paint job like no tomorrow but people still take an interest in it. I had a middle aged woman ask what year my car was last week and she then proceeded to tell me that she had an 86 e30 that she loved to drive (she was a driving instructor some sort of Hyundai). I also had someone in a slightly lowered Passat give me the thumbs up today while driving. I thought it was my friends mom at first(she has the same car;)) and gave him some lame wave before I realized it wasn't her.

As for myself, I usually give the thumbs up to old muscle cars/exotics and most of them respond positively. Sometimes I wonder what they think when it's coming from someone driving an old beat up bmw..
