Yeah, another advantage to that civic is after 1500 miles when the motor explodes, you'll get in awesome shape walking everywhere. I'll take my e30 and my RWD, diving boards or not lol.
well - i'll have to agree about the motor exploding. Motors that pull that kind of hp cost money, more money than most honda owners can pony up to make the car make that sort of HP properly (by properly i mean reliable, long term hp). Chances are the car is also going to be driven to all shit, and or not warmed up properly before railed on, ect. ect. I wouldn't say 1500, but my guess is it won't last too terribly long. Honda makes good motors. Honda tuning companies make high hp 4 cylinder motors, and they cost big $ to do right just like any other company/maker. Ultimately - driving a relatively stock m20 in your e30 will IMO last infinitely long than that honda motor, and cost a lot less to fix....

Yeah, because all Honda drivers don't care and just treat their cars like worthless shit, especially when they spend that much money to build a motor to that spec.

Why are we comparing a bone stock M20 to a motor that has been modified to put out almost 6 times its factory HP?

Not all honda drivers - most honda drivers. Don't make assumptions as to the breadth of my generalization. You go look at your average dickweed rice rocket driver who slaps on his 5asian exhaust and his "HKS intake" and you wonder why I draw these conclusions? Stereotypes exist for a reason. Even people I know with "expensive" honda/acura/ect. can't wait to show off their "boost" even on a cold engine. Maybe this guy is different - but i can only speak to my experience.
It does not take a shit load of money to make that car make that level of horsepower. It does take a lot of money to make a car make that level of horsepower reliably. I have seen advertised "kits" only that advertise over 550 hp for 4k dollars. This is by no stretch a lot of money to make a car reach that level of hp. By the time you get done doing this RIGHT (new/reinforced block, changed the crank, rods, pistons, rings, head porting, ect. ect. - and we have not even touched engine management! you have any idea what kind of calculations have to be made by the computer to not have completely destructive valve float at the kind of RPM that motor has to be pulling to help generate enough work/minute to create that kind of power?) - you have not only achieved 6x the hp but likely many times the value of the vehicle.
I compare the stock m20 to this monster civic for a simple reason - you will be able to drive your m20 powered bmw e30 with 1/6 the horsepower MUCH longer and with less issues than this civic IMO. Engines that are making that kind of power and hp/liter are finiky - even when done right. Not to mention when stuff breaks it will become VERY expensive to fix that honda motor... where as you can fix your m20 and or replace the whole thing for likely a fraction of that cost. if you actually want to go to a track or autox or whatever else and learn to drive a car quickly - you do not go build a XXX horsepower grenade rocket unless you have CUBIC dollars to play with when it breaks. and if you have that kind of money, wtf are you doing fucking around with honda's?
I'm not arguing the point to dick on hondas ... i think its a huge misconception as to how much money/time/ect. it takes to properly source the parts to make this type of thing work properly. Meanwhile - this car will pass me on every straight piece of road in the world, as long as it runs ;)
if I'd want to show off to some chix, I'd take the money which were used in getting that honda into 650+hp and built/make prettier my e30 and drive it on track/daily, I bet e30 would rip that honda on the track... which I think is much smarter/better/more mature....
If I'd want to show off to some guys w/ high .25 mile shitz... I'll take that honda.... tell you the truth, I'd rather show off to chix :D
