    New e30 1988 325 zinnoberrot MOTOR QUESTION

Hey r3v! i'm thinking about buying a new e30.. but there is some problems.. the owner said he or she drove it hot etc.. "redneck old guy that sells cars that don't know about bmw etc.. so no there is no water-pump in the car.. the water-pump failed he said "or something"... i think the owner is to afraid or cheap to buy a new water-pump or if there is more "hidden" problems.. IF there is nothing to be afraid of should i just buy the car, buy a new water-pump "$40" or should i change out more stuff/motor.. please help.. buying the car later this week/weekend

the price of the car is a good deal! but i'm curious if i have to do a motor swap!

Autotragic, DBs & non-running. What position are you in? Do you need a car? or is this a project? Rust? I'd offer no more than a couple hundred dollars.

    edit: Also mileage?

No rust and yes it's going to be a "project car" ... my plan is to make it look and run good! :) i'm just saving this girl from Deliverance :)

if i'm lucky all i need is a new water pump :?

auto tragic(not too bad cause vert though), metal bumpers, vert(soft top problems), doesnt run.

tbh Id stay away unless you are getting it for like 400 bucks.

you could put it back together add fluid then pressure test it to see if its the waterpump. I don't see a radiator and I damn sure wouldn't do the water pump w/o doing the timing belt and tensioner too. The motor could be cooked but you will never know until to undo the cluster they caused.

I paid $600 for mine and I already put $2400 into it. And mine started in far better shape than that one.

if that interior is an original and clean as it appears, its probably worth what you are paying for the car. I'd also grab a rad and any old water pump and slap them in with a battery and see if it starts.

My bet is a warped head, maybe cracked block so I'd plan on an engine swap unless you get lucky

Not sure what pics you're looking at, but I see worn out fronts, and a rear seat that was recovered by a 6 y/o blind kid with plastic????????

I would plan on a headgasket at the minimum too, and be surprised and ver happy if just the water pump is the problem

engine is blown if the water pump had died. at min you will need head gasket, bolts, head machined and pressure tested, and probable all new seals and hoses. nothing you cant fix in a long weekend. but if you get it for cheap, it's worth it.
                            Much wow

Check oil and coolant, if they are not mixed together, it might work. then you should do pressure test to cylinders.. ;)
