    wtf is up with m42swaps?

    I dont get why so popular for guys to swap out their m42's. 325's are way more common than 318's...Ruining the 318 species.

      The only m42 that should be spared are late model verts and 318iSes
      Then again, I believe all m20's deserve to be swapped unless 2.7i or stroked. I guess you can say I have a soft spot for m42s

          318s were the lightest chassis and came sunroofless. Get light car and put big engine, go fast.

            M42s are pretty cool, but I see why people swap them because of lack of power. I'm even getting bored of the m20b25..

            But again I would never molest a 318is.

                M42s are slow but somewhat bulletproof imo. I personally like them but hey, im a slow driver. haha. But seriously, being 4cyl, it's perky enough...

                  those that say m42 boring are noobs. try reving them 4-6k=different car. Id rather have m42 than m20 anyday. Whats up with having to swap timing belts every 4yrs or 60k miles=GAY

                    A lot of M42's got swapped when the timing case profile gasket let go, the engine overheated, and the head warped.

                      It's still slow at 6k, lol. They are better to toss angrily into corners than rev out. And timing belts every 4 years ain't so bad. M20 sound and character is more appealing IMO, but even the b25 is pretty slow.

                          i suppose im too lazy to do anything about it though.

                              You are entitled to being wrong. The m42 is a nice DD engine, but it is not fun at ANY RPM. Sucks at SCCA because it has zero bottom end. Reminds me of a Honda engine. Point A-B engine, now buttchugz m42 turbo would be fun to zip around in! But the m20 with mild boost is even better yet, and a boosted m30 is fucking bonkers with no effort.

                              My b27i stroker shit all over my brother's m42. He is so thankful we are pulling his 108k m42 in favor of a b27i with a 272 cam.

                              M42 is better than a M10, only plus I see. Driven them both enough to know they suck. I would rather change a m20 timing belt every 60k instead of being bored in an m42.

                              Simple fact is the both are slow. My Dad's minivan is faster, 24v and m30 swaps are hands down better. It is not like the m42 is rare or desired like a s14.
