Neat project, but what am I missing?

To be honest, this is one of the things I love about OBDII cars - it's easy to get data, and there's a good number of real time data logging systems available on the aftermarket.

Swing wild, brake later, don't apologize.

I plan on picking one of those up.

What mine has over that is mainly testing functionality, also consider that the ECU will not throw a code instantly all the time. Plus at the moment mine does not even interface with the ECU, it simply tests the engine harness itself for issues, which a code tool cannot always locate.

I'm not expecting this thing to be useful for everybody, its just useful for me.

would have been great for my M3 last summer. the grounds that all meet in the harness, for the impulse sensors on the trans, all corroded and had my car down for months to figure out.
            cool setup.
