What shocks me the most about this thread is that an R32 Skyline goes for more than an NSX. I know the US has tougher import laws which makes Skylines really rare there, but still...

You all who believe this guy are morons who have No clue how the legal system works. I called bullshit from the beginning as soon as he started quoting his lawyer's "words". Just think about the situation this kind of stuff doesn't happen and if it does it is not settled in a week for 100k it would take months of court and investigations, no company in there right mind (even if they are guilty) is just gonna settle for 100k a week after they told this kid to fuck off.

Lol the ones who are upset over OP being compensated over what they think is right are probably the ones who brag about not tipping at restaurants.

From what the op is stating there was no actual court adjudication. It seems like it was settled between his attorney and the company. It just seems hard to me that Les Schwab would settle so quickly with little to no investigation on their part. Just seems fishy. ANYONE with any knowledge of this type of proceeding knows that things do not happen this fast. If this were the case people would be going to stores and loosening their lug nuts every day. No investigation, no inspection? Nothing? Just paying out 100k...no questions asked? 100k settlement with only 48 hours between the initial lawyer contact and settlement agreement?

Les Schwab would conduct a thorough investigation solely based on the fact that the wheel came off THE NEXT DAY. Just that fact would make them conduct an investigation.....

Its also weird that the op's attorney would contact the store and speak to the store manager? Do we really think the store manager has the ability to negotiate a 100k settlement? Really. Not the legal department, not headquarters but the local store manager who makes $25 an hour? Would a company with earnings exceeding a billion dollars settle so quickly instead of putting one of their highly paid attorneys and investigators on it? I guess..

But then again the OP survived a gunshot, being hit by a car, a stabbing, being beaten and a crash at 190 mph so I guess anything is possible.

I understand that this is a "feel good story", but sit back and think about it for a second....Does all this seem plausible?

Makes me happy too. Those corporate scumbags need to learn to treat their customers right the first time and one of the only ways to do this is through their corporate coffers. Besides its not like this one settlement will negatively affect this company in a drastic way. Sure it might make their profits go down but is that reasonable given their lack of respect and good customer service? I think it's perfectly fair. Everyone rags on OP for whether or not his settlement was reasonable... for him to gain a large amount of money. We are looking at it wrongly here. Les Schwab is far more deserving of this loss of money and seeing as OP lead the charge for this corporate knock on the knuckles he deserves it. This is not a frivolous suit. Lives were indeed at stake here.

Also, no one is allowed to tell another person how they should or shouldn't spend their own money. If it belongs to them (whether earned or in this case legally recognized as theirs) then it is theirs to do as they wish. It sounds like OP is going to continue his college education as well as possibly take some larger business risks with the increased funds and that's commendable. That's investment...that's good. His decision to buy a better car or a better apartment? That's not an investment...it is indeed a luxury item, but again, it's not our place to tell him how to spend or what to buy.

Finally, this settlement was either settled in our out of court so either Les Schwab felt the settlement amount was reasonable in leu of court costs and the like or that a Federal judge ruled that the amount was reasonable. Either way it is considered "reasonable" by all parties involved so let's just drop it.

Im really not trying to come down on the op (I should probably try harder). I just feel that this situation is representative of a larger problem thats all. I just see shit like this on a daily basis. People get "tapped" and the next thing you know they cant move, they get transported in the ambulance, have "deep tissue damage" and to top it off "their dick dont work no mo" Is this what the op did..NOPE. did he get a ridiculous compensation which IMHO he does not deserve? Yup. Are insurance rates higher because of it. Yup! Does it affect small businesses? Yup! Has it lead to our litigious society? Yup! AGAIN just my thoughts.

Everyone who pays for insurance should be against this guy getting $100k for a damn wheel falling off. Its happened me before and I went into oncoming traffic and survived. I was more than happy with just my life.
Besides he's just dreaming anyway, read his post about how he plans on getting an apartment with a view of the water. Get real. I don't have a problem with anybody "coming up", lord knows I've had a ton of "come ups." I just feel like $100k for a wheel falling off is highly unlikely and he's just dreaming and now trying to sale us his dream. A judge will rule that their liable for the damages that they've caused.

This a dream, seriously read this post and tell me the likely hood of this conversation taking place:

Lawyer: "Fuck, is that all? You realize we're going to get 6 figures out of these guys right?"
    Me: "So a Skyline...and a house?"
