i've owned 2 late model m20s so I'm partial to the second option, but definitely get the engine checked out (compression, leak down, ecu etc) because it doesn't sound right. either its a noticeably loud valvetrain or something else is loose. those things should be masked by a video recording, not amplified. pretty much all you can hear from my car while inside is the exhaust unless the stereo is on..

I'm leaning towards the first car but still split. The carbed motor worries me.

2nd car is kept in storage and never driven hence the high idle and valve train noise. Sounds great after 10 minutes. I've seen worse cars sell online for 6k.

I agree with you about car one

Car two on the other hand...that high idle due to being "garaged" and never driven, that's horse shit! I live in Canada and even after storing my car for a whole year thru winter, I never had an idle that high. Even when starting my 325es in -30C temps and not pluggin it in would cause that.

second but 5k it too much for all the little problems and high idle. What do all the rubber bushings look like under the car?

I like the second car but I'm with everyone else on getting the engine checked out.

I bought the silver sedan for 900 bucks! Thanks for the heads up about the high idle, I think I made the right choice. I'll post pics ASAP, it's super clean other than a worn out drivers seat.

              More opinions needed:

Wheels! Is this a fair price? 300 USD.

Those wheels are at a decent price, find caps too.

don't bother with an m50, aim for m52/s5X

Why? Finding an easy swap is my first priority. I thought the m50 was the most simple.

Is there much difference between all of them when it comes to swapping? Idk, I've never done a swap. All I know is that m50s don't produce that much more than an m20. (I know your car isn't m20 powered)

I assumed all m52s were obdII. I was wrong.

                      This better?

i think you made the right choice. the price difference between the two makes this one a no brainer.

the car with the high idle: that is no big deal. it probably is a result of sitting for some period of time. most likely the problem there is a sticky idle control valve. to fix this, you can spray carb cleaner inside really well and just watch the dirty grime pour out. the other option is to simply replace this part.
