i've owned 2 late model m20s so I'm partial to the second option, but definitely get the engine checked out (compression, leak down, ecu etc) because it doesn't sound right. either its a noticeably loud valvetrain or something else is loose. those things should be masked by a video recording, not amplified. pretty much all you can hear from my car while inside is the exhaust unless the stereo is on..

2nd car is kept in storage and never driven hence the high idle and valve train noise. Sounds great after 10 minutes. I've seen worse cars sell online for 6k.
Car two on the other hand...that high idle due to being "garaged" and never driven, that's horse shit! I live in Canada and even after storing my car for a whole year thru winter, I never had an idle that high. Even when starting my 325es in -30C temps and not pluggin it in would cause that.Last edited by Stanley Rockafella; 04-09-2013, 12:38 PM.If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

Is there much difference between all of them when it comes to swapping? Idk, I've never done a swap. All I know is that m50s don't produce that much more than an m20. (I know your car isn't m20 powered)sigpic

i think you made the right choice. the price difference between the two makes this one a no brainer.
the car with the high idle: that is no big deal. it probably is a result of sitting for some period of time. most likely the problem there is a sticky idle control valve. to fix this, you can spray carb cleaner inside really well and just watch the dirty grime pour out. the other option is to simply replace this part.sigpic
