I purposely dented the shit out of some asshole's door when I was younger because they parked too close. Yes it was a douche move but my buddy didn't care that his door was used as a hammer. Good 6" dent or so.

I hate people who park in your parking spot because you are not centered. There is obviously a reason the person parked that way. Respect it.

My advice, far away and right corner spots will help minimize dings. 50% chance you're safe due to just a driver. It still doesn't protect you from the passengers on the right hand side.

I'm calling bull on that. You can't put a 6" dent in a door. First off, most cars made since 1980(?) have a impact bar in the door. Second, most doors aren't 6" thick. And furthermore, you'd fold the door doing the damage in half before you got 6" in.

Nice try though. I'll assume it was more of a fish story.

(edit - I know- you say your buddy rolled his car forward or something - oh it was a 6 inch "long" dent.....meh....what ever)

Longitudinally, hexagonally, or otherwise. 220, or 221 - what ever it takes.

George is right. It takes a lot of force for this to happen. Check out this quick video of a R32 buddy touching my car with his door, it's not like a ding happens when the door touches, it happens when people swing that shit open.

I too have parked faaaaar away only to have someone park next to me. The only thing you can do is park close to the curb, but if it's a crazy big spot like lambo had, then just park crooked. People think BMW drivers are cocks anyway.

In Lambo's situation, I would have parallel parked that bitch.

Good thing about the Rover. Someone blocks me in, I drive over the curb. Done that more than once.

Of course, someone parks close as shit to me, they get some British aluminum in their door. Carry on.

If it's not marked as a handicap space there isn't any reason to treat it as such.

I park as far away from the store as I can. Fat slobs do not like to walk. I still get keyed and dents from dick bags damaging my car. People ask why I have shitty paint? that is why, I do not give a fuck about it. My Uncle is a body man and amazing painter, I can have a paint job in a week if I wanted it.

This, but I think it has something to do with someone else's car being nicer. "Fuck that assflute and his BMW, ding 'em!"

When I say that I drive a BMW people are impressed, until I tell them its 20+ years old. Maybe the BMW name helps dings? I parked a mint rust free '87 Daytona anywhere it would fit for 3 years. Didn't get a single ding/scratch. My E30 doesn't have particularly nice paint and even parking far away I've noticed a few new dings in the past couple years.

Weird how that works... I've noticed kids really like my BMW's, sometimes I hear the parents go "that's a BMW" to their kid so it seems like adults wouldn't hate but who knows.

Don't forget too, a BMW is a foreign car. Most domestic snobs (ones who are snobs) probably don't see anything different from a riced civic with a watermelon cannon to a clean stock BMW.

                            we should all commie cars

as far as im concerned, door dings fall into the category of 'cost of ownership' just like regular maintenance.

I carry cones in my tundra, slap,a fake construction magnet on the door and put cones next to it. Works like a charm

try being in a highschool parking lot. I have one on my driver side front panel that is on the line of the car and it's very visible. It is very hard to deal with. OH and my girlfriend sat on my paint with these jewels on her pants and I told her to get off and she slid off! Piss me off.
