    4.10 Diff cross country

Ok so it seems like if everything goes as planned, I will be driving from NJ to San Francisco on the week of May 20th. I've posted a couple of threads months earlier about Cali destinations and I think it's finally going to happen.
    That being said,
My 318is is equipped with a 4.10, stock wheels. Some of these roads are 80mph speed limit, which means a lot of soccer moms doing 90+.
With a 4.10, would it be recommended to sustain 90mph for 2+ hours? What about 100 if the flow of traffic allows it?

Ideally, I want to go as slow as possible just to conserve gas. But of course there will be long open stretches where the flow of traffic is doing near triple digit speeds.
Your statement is contradictory/confusing. You do not have to go over the speed limit anywhere... of course I wouldn't blame you but then you're not conserving gas at all. But the car will run fine.

Yes, questioning my 22 year old car's longevity driving ~5000RPM in 5th gear for hours on end, in the middle of the country, is quite dumb of me! R3v never fails to disappoint its elitism does it?

I drove my old '91 318is from Richmond, VA to Charleston, SC and back keeping 90+ the whole way and touching 105 a few times. Topped it out once too. The M42 had 342,000 miles on it and it did just fine.

I was fucking deaf for a week after doing that and girlfriend (riding shotgun) broke up with me shortly thereafter as well, but yeah, the car was fine.

                    That was summer of 2010.
