I told Guss about the motor and waiting his response. You know my son came in second at the autox and Guss got fourth.

            WTF?

What does the fact that it's been in a junkyard have to do with anything in terms of value??

Even assuming it did, how would anyone know it was in a yard unless the OP posts the VIN?

If the car wasn't trashed by a forklift, and it's got a clear title, it's just the same as if someone bought it from a used car dealership.

As others have said, I wouldn't say this car is worth a ton of $$ no matter what, but the fact that it's gone through a junkyard has no affect on its future value.

Just b/c the physical title is clean means nothing. When you go to transfer it over I bet it comes back salvage. Also it's sitting on its frame in the mud, and don't scrap yards puncture gas tanks and salvage CATs? No way I would buy that car and try to flip it. Grab the clean parts and walk away.

I'm pretty sure this whole thread is rendered moot because you can't buy a complete car from a junk/salvage yard. When a yard takes possession of a car, most often, the title is wiped out and destroyed, making the car impossible to title again or drive legally.

IMHO, none of us are in the "E30 game" for huge profits. I bought my '90 325i g260 sedan for $400, and I'd be lucky to break even at $3500 or $4000 now after repairs and mods. These cars are a passion and addiction for many of us, so I'd be tempted to save it and just drive it.

OP-my car was in worse shape than this one from the junk yard. Moldy headliner, torn seats, driveshaft out, no start for 5-6 years. All it needed was a timing belt, fresh fluids, new gas, and a battery to get started though. Sure the alternator, slave cylinder, ignition switch, control arms, etc, etc went out soonafter but it became an awesome hobby for me. There's not a day that goes by that I'm not excited to drive my car. If you're looking for a project or just a tremendous sense of accomplishment, I don't think this 318i is too far gone to save. Just buy it if you have room and see how much work it needs with some basics before you sink too much time/money fixing or parting it.

Good luck. Hope to see a build thread on this one day!

you didn't read the whole thread:p

i'm pretty sure you can find an m42 in your area to replace the bad engine. hell, i might only need a timing chain. if the exhaust is still under the car, you should be able to buy and install an engine and wheels and whatever else it needs for less than 1200.00. that means worst case, you should be into this car for under 2k and driving down the road. if the body is as clean and rust free as it looks to be, the car should easily be worth 3k. drive it for a while and sell it.
