    m20 Stroker Motor Pistions questions

alright this is for the guys with the stroker motors.

did you guys get custom pistons made?
    did you buy them?
    if so where from?
what kind of rings and wrist pins did you use? and what size?
which connecting rods did you use?
what compression raito are you using?
and what are some specs of the pistons?

what do you setup do you suggest for a 2.8L
i'll have a eta short block.
    and a complete i block.

how much am i looking to spend to get a set of pistons?
and where should i be getting them from?

    thanks for your time guys.

85mm bore, 9.8:1 compression, JE forged pistons, can't remember if i or e rods were used and an ETA crank.

Re: m20 Stroker Motor Pistions questions

Got mine from Top End Performance, same link that Jordan posted. They're JE pistons, 85mm bore, 10.0:1 compression, eta rods, and Total Seal rings. When ordering, you basically specify what cylinder head and connecting rods you're using (bore/stroke specs) and they'll do the rest.

Mine cost $825 for the set, not including $12 shipping and $68 CA sales tax. Turnaround time was 10 days, but they gave me the wrong pistons the first time.

If you are having custom JE pistons made, they will make them in accordance to your rods etc. It doesnt matter

I have 85mm Ross Racing 8.5:1 compression pistons. I ordered them from Ireland Engineernig for 939 shipped. THey came with high strength wrist pins, wrist pin retainers and Deves rings. I am using stock "i" rods and a 524td crank. THerefore it is a 2.8l. My pistons are a flat top design with a very small valve recess for the intake (i thnk, i'll have to check) valves.

I have a genuine 220bhp+ engine using the following.

                      M20 2.5 litre block
M20 tarmac spec head (race prepped)
Sodium filled 1.2mm oversized valves (exhaust)
                      ETA crank
                      320i rods
Karl Scmidt pistons (10.2:1 compression) 0.5mm overbored.
                      Piper cam ultimate road spec
One of my own VeNoM Motorsport chips.

This package makes the car pull like a train, i am yet to come accross a quicker e30 (although obviously there is quicker out there).

Show me a dyno sheet, I'd love to see that much power out of a 2.8

EDIT: That makes me look like an ass. Don't mean to be rude, just curious about your actual numbers.

Seriously, let's see some dyno numbers.

What sort of head work did you do? What injectors are you running? AFM?

i got the feeling i was back on the e30zone for a few seconds then :)

anyway, i dont have any dyno sheets here with me but i have a proven 216.5 bhp without the maf unit which s good for 10bhp at least.
on top of that i have 75bhp nitrous kit fitted to the car so the doors of 300bhp is not too far away.

I am running the maf unit so no air flow meter like normal.
The head has 1.2mm oversized exhaust valves (sodium filled) the reason for this was to take the heat with the high rpm`s i had intended for the engine.

The car bounces off the speedo at 7600rpm all day long and still comes back for more.

it is fitted with complete allot head gear keeping weight down while at the same time keeping strength as the main priority.

the cam is a quality item made from billet piece of steel and not the cheaper reprofiled unit.

the valve seats have 5 angles which if i were to advise in the future i would keep them to the 3 angles as 5 angles tend to be a little noisy.

the guides have been replaces using titanium tubing.

i have set the gap`s too 10 thou and power seems best at that setting.

i am using a sealed air inlet with feed from front of engine bay keeping engine heat away from inlet.

the engine is fitted with a 6 branch manifold then onto a blue flame exhaust (these people make the world super bike teams exhausts so know there stuff)

i am sure there is other mods but i cannot think at the mo.

i will add piccies in another thread but these are a few months old as my new digi cam is playing up.
