I have a chip and a 4.1.... it really isn't that bad. As far as interstate driving...... i get roughly 25 miles to the gallon on the highway. No that bad. Also doing 80mph puts me in the 3750rpm range in 5th gear. I rairly cruise the highway at over 90mph..... so the acceleration gain is def worth the high rpms on the highway. I think a 4.1 is a great choice for 200hp or less.

      Side note....

      My dad runs a 3.46LS with an E36 tranny (4.23:1 low gear).....behind a 275+hp M50. That's much shorter than a 4.10, and shorter than 4.27 in any E30 gearbox.

Though he does turn his motor 7500.

I thought he drove a white Dodge minivan? AWD soccer mom ride, or that's just to haul parts.....? :P (Cardomain page)

          4.10 LSD.

...which just makes the stock rev limiter that much more annoying in 1st.

Mileage wise, I get ~24mpg freeway doing 70-80mph on cruise.

It's not really THAT short- I run a 3.73 with my e36 tranny, and it's not that bad on the highway- I think top speed is still around 130+ at rev limit. Really the only way to go if you're lacking on power! (like I am)
Are you using an m20 tranny, Stu?

Maybe he's busy with college, but I canl answer. He uses the M20 transmission, the Getrag 260.

I've got a 4.10LSD. My M20 is completely stock and has 219,xxx miles. The majority of my driving is on surface streets around town so that lower final ratio comes in handy. Highway drives are a bit more taxing in the fuel department and the engine noise is a tad louder due to the higher engine speeds. But then again, I've got a Stromung so the sound is sweet ;)

                      I own a 1988 318i automatic which was imported from UK.(with a normal diff 4.1}

Can I replace it with a 4.1 LSD of a 318is from US.

                      I think I cant put in a 4.1 LSD off a 6 cyc like the 325i Auto?

                      Any thoughts?

How much is a 4.1 LSD going for?

And if I'm to import a LSD from US, where should I buy from?

                      Thanks.

                        4.10 M3 LSD.

Pete's minivan is the Boss van. They picked the right combination of options for the best performance... it rocks.

in a few days i will have a 3.73 LSD in my Eta.

I need to replace my 2.93 LS and the only differential i have laying around is a 3.73 LS.

I still have to install the 3.73 in my 85..... Hmm, maybe I should get that rear hub done too, lol.
