I remember reading on E3S at some point that an M50 head could be made to fit.

Does anyone else remember that, or am I hallucinating?

the oil journals don't match up IIRC, ask rs4pro3 i think he was the one who tested it.

Also, there was a 24v head made for the m20, although it alone will cost you more than an m50 will, and you still won't have a timing chain

Ya I tried it. the oil holes don't line up but it does bolt on. Supposedly you can make the oil journals work. but then you have to figure some way to mount a chain on the m20 crank, and figure what length chain and all that would be needed and some way to oil the chain.

Yeah , M50 head wont work on the M20, for the chain mostly...we need a "dry" system , well, belt system, for our engine.....

Racing Dynamics did make a 24V DOHC chain driven head. They were very limited production to begin with, and because they were so expensive sales were poor. They stopped production and as such they are super rare these days.

Even if you find one, I doubt any of us have the means to really obtain one.

And even if the price was comparable to an M50 I think you'd still be better off with the M50...

If one wanted to undertake the project (certainly not me) would it be possible to make the oil journals match up and figure out a chain setup and make it work?

sure, with a lot of money anything is possible.. but at the end of it all, you could have probably just dropped an S50 in and end up making more power anyway.

So true, even if it didn't cost a lot more......

the M50 non-vanos can be bored out to 86mm, whereas M20 only safe to 85....and there you have a major difference in balls-out ability in building up the motor.....
