Offered a trade for 1986 325e +cash for 1991 318is. Is it worth it?

I don't have much on the car yet in terms of photos, but when I do I'll update. Records were kept and the car has 210k miles on it. It has a freshly redone interior and the paint is new(black) basketweave wheels.

My car (1986 325e) has 191K but runs well although has a few cosmetic flaws. Guy wants 4500 dollars for the car all together but is willing to trade for mine plus 1800 cash. Does that seem too much?

My car also has it's own issues, such as a locking problem on driver's side, some clutch travel issue, and a problem with the stereo having a light on when the car is off that drains the battery.

He's only briefly explained to me that it's in great condition, has records for the last five years, and has perfect interior and new paint. I'm still waiting for photos.

Okay, so I finally got to look at and drive the car. He had it repainted, but there are runs in the paint.

The brakes are rattling and he says it's because of the pads. The brake sensor light is on because the sensor is missing.

There is a small crack in the front plastic bumper. The interior looks fine mostly, but the dash is cracked and it is missing the passenger side visor, plus the headliner is coming loose in some spots.

The basketweaves are missing a center cap.

The odometer is not working.

The A/C is not working and he claims it needs to be charged.

He wants my car the 1986 BMW 325e plus $2k in cash.

I don't think this is worth it.

Tires look new though and the car drives solid.

Odometer was reading 218k.

I didn't see any rust on it at all, but it could have just been painted over too.

What should I offer if anything?

I just talked him down to 1600 plus car and he's going to ensure me that the A/C is working. Mind you the car I have right now isn't driveable because there is a huge drain on the battery and I believe the slave is toast.

Also mine does have rust in the trunk and on the rear left panel where the trunk meets the edge of the car. Also on the sunroof. My seats on the 86 also don't function properly and the central locking system does not function at all. In order to lock my car you have to get in on the passenger side and lock it while the driver side is closed.

Another update. He texted back after trying to "charge" the system. Didn't work. Won't go lower. Hah. :-D I feel good I didn't get it now. No sense blowing away money for something that needs a lot more money.

Updated: He went lower and said he'll take $1400 now.

If it were me, I'd just politely tell him that I'm no longer interested. Paint with runs seriously irks me and makes me wonder what else is hiding.

It just came out of paint yesterday. It irks me a bit too, but it can be taken back to be fixed. You're probably right though. The car definitely drives better than my 325e which doesn't drive at all right now. :-\

I just know the car I have right now isn't super great so it doesn't seem too terrible if you know what I mean.

im still sticking to my guns saying its worth it at 1600 over. Ya so the ac doesnt work. so what. its easy to fix. shitty paint? its a 200k plus 318is... what more could you want. the po obviously did a cheapo job but hey, it looks good from 10 feet away.

at the end of the day its still a clear title 318is thats worth WAY more than an non running e car.

if op doesnt trade buttchug may go buy this. youve been warned.
