    This Is Why You Need a Skidplate

    I was driving through a construction area in Chevy Chase, MD on Sunday night and hit a manhole cover that seemed to have too steep a temporary grade. Made it home, but found this upon inspection:






    Ouch.

              Well, not lowering the car means no skid plate needed and extremely low risk of damage...

                  There's a town called Chevy Chase? That's awesome.

                  Not so awesome about your oilpan though. At least it wasn't a catastrophic failure.

                          As far as I know, my car is at a legal height. I have a Bilstein BTS strut/shock/spring combo. I've never scraped a speedbump or anything else until now. Also, the manhole that I hit was pretty high.

                                              I think M3 springs/Koni SA is really the ideal compromise.

                                              OP, it almost looks like the hit to the rack could have smashed the adjusting nut for the pinion gear in a bit. That would have made things much worse. Are you planning on keeping that rack?
