Before I do any maintenance or any performance work to the car, decals and JDM stickers are a MUST. I heard they add about 15 hp. Talk about power gain for the low!

I was in your place just a few weeks ago with a first e30, luckily you're starting out a lot younger than I am. There's a guide for just about everything here, which is probably why I'm on here so damn much now, E30 fever has already gotten to me.

To what russc said, either use a torque wrench or learn the sweet spot of tightening into aluminum. I usually tend to over tighten everything and stripped the thread on the thermostat housing and the 10mm upper timing belt cover, not fun. If you aren't using a torque wrench, get it so it's tight then give it one more quarter turn. Also, cover open holes when working! I now use bits of shop rag to make sure nothing gets where it isn't supposed to be. Oh, and be methodical as possible, you don't want any leftover stuff once it's all back together.

            Post up some pics already!

Don't drift between two trucks and then tell r3v about it.

Has anyone mentioned the timing belt AND TIMING BELT TENSIONER?

(and while you're in there, the hoses and water pump if they're not looking new)

Beyond that, start by fixing what's broken and worn out, then move on to things that
are about to wear out or break, and then things that you want to fix.
I've been driving around without a glove box for years, and I don't miss it...

                And some DDM stickers, too.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
