    Firestone almost claims another e30

Driving down the street with no warning suddenly there was a bad thumping noise and the abs light came on. picture one is what I saw. All 4 lugs were 100% unscrewed and sitting in the lug holes of the rims, the one that was last to hold on (I guess) was bent & stripped.

I called the Firestone that installed the rims yesterday and they sent a flatbed which first had a bad jack and then we couldn't get the tire iron into the holes to the lug because the center cap nut is in the way and he did not have a wrench, my tools are in my house because I forgot to put them back in the car after Firestone had it.

They sent a second truck and he put the car on a 4x4 & used it as a ski and we went to Firestone.

Firestone accepted 100% liability (the manager was glad I was not killed) and I don't mean because he cares about my safety but because he knows his store is liable.

The car has a tiny bit of damage on the fender where it meets the bottom of the door and the disk & abs sensor are trashed but otherwise it is ok.

I almost went to rward325's house in Long Beach, 30 miles on the freeway last night, thank god I didn't.

      uh, wow.

that's one reason why I always watch them torque my lug nuts. discount tire and costco are usually good about it, but still. I like to double check it when I get home, too.

That's why I take the WHEELS in and not the car. They mount the tires to the wheel, I put the wheels on. Especially with nock-off hubs like on my car.

thats a good idea. i work for goodyear and i know that we arent even allowed to touch a car with knock-offs because of the liability

I agree, I had a bad experience at a supposedly "reputable" tire shop just for a balance. New guy f-ed my rocker panel up underneath the car, it wasn't really visible from the side of the car, but the shop claimed it wasn't there fault ("its just a piece of metal"). Seems they don't know what to do with an import.

Anyway, good to see things are being taken care...

They're going to take care of ALL of the damage, to the car and everything else, correct?

You can't even imagine the shitstorm I would have started in that place when I got back. Seriously, these guys don't have that hard of a job. How does something like that even fucking happen? It absolutely blows my mind. Most of these places, it's like they throw a dollar bill out in the street and hire the first guy that picks it up.

Plus -even after the shop mounts the rims to the vehicle one is strongly advised to have the tourque checked at around 500 miles. Most people dont even know that and a re not adequately informed. Glad you or your e30 was not injured seriously. Threaten them with a suit in small claims court unless they hook you up big time with free parts and labor that you doulbe check. I also dont let anyone but me -mount and dismount my CR7's .

They tried to claim the rims need centering rings. I said if that were the case then they needed to say they could not install them without them and as they sent it on to th estreet thay were responsible. Not only are thay fixing everything they are putting in a pad wear sensor ( I said it was bad and they said they would do it free) and if it needs the rings then they will put them in free.

I showed them the pictures, got the names and numbers of BOTH tow truck drivers (they pay) and showed the pictures to the manager. He knows I am serious and not to be messed with.

These were put on yesterday, if I drove 15 miles I would be surprised.

well, they didn't undertighten them though.. they put them on with a fucking impact wrench! I broke my 17mm socket trying to get the lugs out (standing on my breaker bar, wouldn't come loose). the only one I did get out was the stripped one on the front left wheel. :(

I was waiting for you to chime Dan.

The part that bothers me most is I took it to them (1) because I wanted to verify balance and (2) my jack & stands are at home (Mexican home) and when I tried to swap them at Frank's house we couldn't get the lugs to budge (guess the Mexican shop that just put them on did it right) lol

They said they don't understand it because they torque tham 2x (different mechanics verify the torque afrter it is put on.)

All I know is I paid them 46 bucks to do it right and now they need to handle it. The receipt I have from dropping it off says tire issue courtesy check and in the charge section n/c.
