if an old porsche, find a 70s 911 or 912. They're actually pretty cheap if there not one of the rare turbo or rs models or in pristine condition. There was a funny vid of clarkson trying to destroy a classic 911 on top gear, and he couldnt.. Ill post it if i can find it.

You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Funny, we '02 guys buy E30's as daily beaters. :)
I had a heck of a time tuning the carb on my '76 2002, since I am used to tii's and their mechanical fuel injection. You will have things to fix, sure, but it is MUCH easier to hunt down a hesitation problem in a 2002 than it is in a 325i. Many, Many guys (and gals) drive their 2002's as daily drivers without a hitch.

There are no deals on early GOOD 2002s with round tail lights. Your best bet is to get a 75 or 76. Safer bumpers, cheaper to pick up. In Texas you will have to upgrade the cooling system. These cars were made for German climate. 320i radiators fit and there are larger fan blades available as well as cooler thermostats. They are fun daily drivers. Buy the best one you can afford and enjoy it. Been fixing 2002s for 35 years! Too bad you are so far from Oregon. My kid has a decent 2002 for sale here.1988 Alpine white M3

The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.
