What the OP has stated is true. OEM cats are now required.

There is nothing anywhere stating that OEM cats are required, including the CARB website. Prove it or shut up.

Do a little research before starting another BS thread like this.
Aftermarket catalytic converters must be exempted from California's anti-tampering laws in order to be legally sold and installed in the state. If an aftermarket catalytic converter is shown to be durable and meets vehicle emission control requirements, it is granted an exemption Executive Order (EO) that allows it to be installed on specific emission controlled vehicles.

The California Air Resources Board, with assistance from aftermarket catalytic converter manufacturers, has been developing a database to store and retrieve information on aftermarket catalytic converters that have been approved for use in California. These catalytic converters comply with the new regulations that became effective January 1, 2009. The database is currently under construction and contains some of the catalytic converters approved for OBD II vehicles. Once finalized, it will also include catalytic converters for non-OBD II vehicles.

Ok guys - I stand corrected. I called Magnaflow and I guess aftermarket companies do have CA specialized cats.

Find a Mexican owned smog shop.

                            (I'm Mexican, so it's not racist) :)

For obd2 this is true. But older cars are fine. I just had to replace an aftermarket e30 cat and took it to a star station that refuses to pass any car that isn't perfect and it passed just fine. That was on Wednesday this week!
