    I think it would make much more sense if someone finally got working on an N54B30 swap.
    Iirc, they even have slightly better gas mileage than the M57.

        M21 is great engine to start with, it has very strong bottom end and simple cylinder head. Bosch VE distributor pump is easy to mod when its totally mechanical like in this e24.. it started to be half electronic in e39.. You can change bigger element in the pump and bigger injectors to engine and it gives you good power with that. also "Hammer-mode" can be used.
        How-ever, the problem with the distributor pump is the limitting rpm.. the pump cant stand high rpm.. thats the reason why you should use Mercedes inline diesel pump. This distributor pump has only one piston for pumping fuel to all those 6 cylinders when MB has 6 pistons, 1 piston for each cylinder.

        For newer BMW engines, I have M51 e39 and it has pretty good potential. only problem that I see is with the drive chain... You have to remove oil pan every time when you want to open the timing case because cylinder head covers the top of the drive chain.. Electrical pump is also good one to learn about. You can use hammermode too or Evry-mode which is mode where you weaken the return signal so the ecu thinks that it runs with low boost and adds some more fuel to gain boost. BMW doesnt have throttle valve. Air sucked in depends totally to injected fuel.. More fuel=more pressure to turbo compressor side= more boost.

        What I would try with BMW diesel engines is use the m57d30 and remove all elctricity.. There is 4-cylinder version of it which isn't commonrail yet.. Well you can use MB inline pump with little mods and use 4-cylinder engine injectors in that 6-cylinder engine and there you go :)

        About MB engines, I think they are ahed in diesel engines. always been..
        The OM606 engines is called bulletproof engine ( can be compared to 2JZ of its strength) We use lot OM606 engines in here, Finland.
        They can handle lot of boost..

        Problem with the diesel engine is, the more you use boost, the more is the heat of the engine.. it melts aluminum pistons..

            I like you....

            I am finding om606 for anywhere from $1000-4k for the complete engine. About what tdi engines go for but can make mo powa.

            Is 97-2001 the best years to us here? The whole cars are still going for around 8-15k it seems here in east coast usa, so even parting out a wrecked one will be expensive.

              I've heard VAG 1,9tdi is pretty bulletproof engine :) the one that they have used in almost every audi, vw and skoda models. 8 valve engine
