Head to a junkyard, find an '85 Lincoln Mk7 or Continental diesel, snatch the turbo from that and you have yourself a diesel E30.

Yes generator and trash pump engines make great road use engines, also big and very heavy for an e30. Many people have done the swap and the M21s came in e30s over in Europe. 324td's .
Where I work , we maintain what I can only imagine is the only running 524td in Rhode Island .its slower then the 528e. Parts are expensive ,it's bullshit, it's overly complicated , it's retarded, its less reliable then the 528e(he has one of those too) .
