            E36 Ms

In the U.S. the M Aerodynamic Sport Package was only offered in 1999 on the 328is coupe and 328is convertible in limited production, also referred to unofficially as "M-tech". The regular sport package was not available for the 328is and 328is convertible in 1999, only the M aerodynamic sport package was.

You also saw M stuff on earlier 318ti but the bumpers were not necessarily interchangeable.

Everything was pretty much M stuff you see on factory E36 M3 less the mirror, red needle cluster, 17 wheels, and vaders.

            But no M3 emblems.

Put simply, some E36s look like M3 because they came that way from the factory!

I have always felt this was more of a "kit" than anything else on E36s. So, changing to a more aggressive front spoiler borrowed from an M car was nothing big in my eyes. Unlike E30 M cars with flares, 5 lug etc, the E36s in whatever variations look pretty much similar.

Here's a brochure from BMW showing the M3 front spoiler on a 1999 328 coupe. You couldn't order the sport package without it.

Confronting a 1999 328is owner about how this front spoiler shouldn't be there would be hilarious.

I think the type of people who fake a M car general deserve the quality of lady they attract...one that is not only dumb enough to be impressed by a potentially more expensive version of a non super car but also too dumb to recognize they have been duped.

It is the fake e36 M3s that most suitably applies. A real US version e36 M3, which is arguably a poseur M to begin with, can be easily attained for $6,000. So what what kind of woman is impressed by what appears to be a $6,000 car?

Most women I've know could care less about the model they are more impressed (if at all) by the fact it's a BMW.

Not only exclusive to M badges, but there have been many times where I see a nice BMW pull up to my workplace and I compliment their car to break the ice during customer transactions/service. They then see it as an open door to start blabbing how it's M this and has super features and X amount of power from this and that, and in my head I'm like "ugh, no that's all wrong, stop it!".

How much less could they care though? This is why it makes more sense to throw a roundel on a Tercel than a M badge on a 325i. Way more bang for the buck.

I remember seeing many E30s in UK and South Africa with M badges on the front grill which they had come with stock. You can still see some on e30s in ads from those regions.

If I can catch them and I feel frisky I will question them about their car. Start asking basic technical questions and watch them squirm.

Then I tell them the real facts about the car they impersonated. I dont know, i get my jolly's from it.

Then i drive away in my M and make sure they can see me. I have only done this twice.
