Does E30 xi models have better handling?

Haven't read much about the E30 xi AWD models but do they handle better on road courses or are they just mean for snow and stuff?

Mine was a fucking boat. Then I drove a Buick Roadmaster.

Which was a fucking awesome car. Im pretty sure I might have fathered a few illegitimate children in the back of my pops Roadmaster when I was younger. That and it was tits on the highway.

Rwd will be better in every way on a road course. The AWD really only helps with low traction situations. They are more nose heavy, have more drivetrain loss and iirc (but don't quote me on this one) have a loftier suspension which will be the more important factors on a dry road course.

The ix does have a nice (35/65 i think?) torque bias towards the rear which alleviates some of the power-on understeer you get from typical awd cars... But 0/100 bias is going to be better until you have a lot more power. :)

I wouldn't say it only helps in low traction situations - but a stock ix does sort of feel like a truck, especially since most of them now are quite worn out.

if I were getting into E30s this late in the game, unless you have a special affinity for it, I'd skip the ix. most of the ones that are left are in pretty rough shape, and it will cost a fortune to bring them back to where they should be. parts are going to start getting hard to find as BMW discontinues production. People used to part out E30s if you looked at it too hard and we're paying for it now.

also, there's no such thing as an E30 XI. ;)

After owning both, RWD far exceeds the IX handling wise.

I'd take on that challenge but the only E30 guys around here were hard parkers and never showed up for track/autox. :(

Haha. I'm sure your car is the exception tho.

Stock form comparing the two, RWD > awd. Same w mild suspension comparison (shocks and springs).

I'll own a RWD e30 again one day. I miss the way it drove.

                        Depends on intended purpose ....

For example here's a couple swiss customers enjoying the ice tracks there. No way an is would keep up.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.
