uhh no. This is our opinion. I dont see why we have to "get over" anything seeing as were just discussing opinions on a new way of design. Even if it is whats popular. Thats the beauty of it. Not everyone will like everything. :)

The body line flows off of the top of the headlight a lot better than the curve of the bottom of the headlight.

What body line? It's just a random line straying off the top of the headlight, leading nowhere. It's not style, it just being pretentious.

Oh ok, cool. :) I know that from a design standpoint, and I mean design in the way that means the subject and the college of design meaning, its revolutionary and absolutely ahead of its time. I can respect that. I just dont know if it follows the general tradition of BMW designs and what they were going for up until 2000. Not that thats necessarily wrong, because lets face it, they are making piles of dough and they ARE a business. I just personally dont agree with it. But enthusiasts make up a very negligible percentage of the BMW buying population. We usually dont have the exorbitant amounts it takes to buy one now. Plus we drive E30s, 2002's, etc. hehe

Care to elaborate? How does making a seam a continuation of a body line and therefore integral to the overall design HARDLY make more sense than running it straight off the bottom of the headlights for no good reason and breaking up a nice shape created by that facet that goes along the side of the lights?



The way you have it drawn the headlights have a strange acute angle in the corner for no reason, it's awkward and harsh. But when the seam continues a line to the fender the acute angle makes sense...damnit, I can't explain this in writing.

Of course it looks good on that picture, lol. Okay, I'll admit that what I have drawn doesn't look spectacular, but I just had the idea... Yes, having that seam where it is makes good sense, but it is hard to accept the current design because having seams way up high like that seems to disregard BMWs avoidance of that, which is what I believe people are having trouble with. I think the result is a pieced together look as opposed to any intended geometric dynamics. While the rest of the car plays with the light, the front is imbetted with conflicting shapes and disjointed expression. The front is cut off, nothing carried around to the doors, which seems typical on larger Japanese sedans. I think BMWs are more known for beautifully shaped fenders and I feel this design does not sell that. Also, that hood line everybody is going crazy about is the suck, interrupted by that travesty of a kidney grill. It's all to flat.

My eye is instead led along the top of a dimensionless headlight enclosure, stabbed by the fender/hood junction, and then falls off at the wheel well. Another aspect about the overall design of the front is that while I avoid tracing the hood line, my eyes get stuck in that area where the Hartge plate is. It's a sudden empty drop off underneath the centerpoint of the whole design to a jutting airdamn especially apparent on the pictures I posted. The Hargte one looks fine because the lower lip is sectioned to accentuate an aggressive stance. I'd say BMW addressed my complaints with on this new design:

This design complies with my high seam complaint because the hood better accomodates the headlights to allow for a more appropriate line across the top combined by more traditional kidney grills similar to the new five series, successfully including the three series in BMW's line up. The area underneath the kidney grills is also fixed. I still prefer a seam that looks like it's going somewhere at all times. I like how the headlight enclosure travels up the wheel well on both designs, but unfortunately our eyes are still cut off at that seam.

That's my argument for now. I don't mean to attack anybody's ideas. I suppose I'm just hard to please.

I think the new M6 is one of the best looking BMW's ever produced. And I LOVE the body of the new M5, the only part I don't like is the headlights. And I have a feeling those will be reworked, much like the headlights of the new 7 series were.

I have to admit, the 6 leaves a glimmer of hope in my heart that there will still be some attractive BMW's coming in the future, and that their current lack of beauty will be addressed.

That said, the most beautiful car out there right now is the CLS55 AMG - far and away a work of art.
