Dont molest/f*ck up a nice Is. Leave it stock, take care of it and do a timing case overhaul.

      Youre not a racer
Youre not going to set lap records at any auto x/ circuit
Youre only going to make your car more uncomfortable.

      the end

Lets face it the E30 isn't the quietest car built so removing some (not all) sound deadening material in the rear portion of the car (about 60-70 pounds worth) isn't going to making an already 25 year old car any more noisy then a few decibels louder.
Because all that weight you're removing sits up tall directly next to the driver.

As mentioned before why not just add a bit more power to compensate for the weight savings of tearing your car apart. Granted if your interior is trashed than who cares but I actually like listening to myself think while I drive sometimes.

-Ditch those cumbersome cupholders, one of the many unnecessary luxuries bogging down any e30. You can always put them back in so you don't ruin resale value.
-Run 100% distilled water, it is lighter than coolant mix.

Removing the rear seat adds a lot more noise to the cabin. What you need is lightweight titanium rivets throughout the car.

Damn, you beat me to it.

Summary: removing weight for "fun" on the street is pointless.

no reason to hate here. Yes is removing crap out of a car arguably insinificant, yes it it. But people who are serious hikers scrape the paint off water jugs, and cut toothbrushes down. It is about a total # not just the parts. Also I have no idea what the weight would be of the things i suggested to remove. He also does not sound like he is ruining a car. He sounds mythodical, and wants what ever he does to be reversable.

Exactly my point and to be honest I'm not sure where all this negativity is coming from, I know R3v is harsh on noobs but come on now folks. There are 100s of posts of people gutting their car but if people actually read my my original post where I am only removing 4-5 things out of the car and keeping it as OEM as possible they might actually see what I'm trying to achieve.

For people who say they can't stand my threads/posts why are you even reading/posting here :)

Whatever happened to doing what makes you happy? It's like every thread on R3v is under a microscope (oh wait maybe it's just mine)

OP.......can you afford to buy another e30 (making 2 e30's in your stall )? I was doing the same thing your asking about making your car lighter but with out taking the comfort way from it. To me it was becoming a pain in the ass more than anything else. Taking stuff in and out so i just went and bought another car. I found and paid 380.00 bucks for a running but neglected 90 325i coupe with 5 speed and some body damage. Turned it into a DD/Track car and solved my problem right then and there. P/S A/C delete and no carpet or sound material and still stripping stuff out now more slowly. Installed a professionally made welded in half cage. I dont know if your budget is the same but it worked out better for me doing this instead.

The E30 is my weekend/fun car and I do have a hybrid daily driver (need it for LA's carpool lane). I don't have any intentions of building/wanting a track car but what you did in your situation makes total sense.
