Yeah, a second gen MR2 would be really hot.

Until the rear suspension travels, the A arms bind and you spin out into a tree.

And you find that you can barely work on anything without pulling the engine.

The second generation MR2s are not that great.

you'll be insanely bored in a straight line, but they're quick otherwise. I think the turbo kits are reasonably priced..

Nothing around me. We're looking at 94-97 Miatas.

bmwmike, my dad and I both drive BMW 318s, we're not interested in straight speed. ;)

Wouldn't have to worry about anyone mistaking you for being heterosexual.

Driven one though, and it was a blast. Just don't know if I could put up with the stigma, as shallow as that is.

the miata and your 318is are pretty similar. except the miata is a lot smaller. there is a huge aftermarket for it, and you can get one cheap. I was deciding between an e30 and a miata for my second/track/project car and went with the e30 because I don't like convertibles and the chassis is as soft as a wet noodle. And that the e30's are much nicer looking. But it's fun and light and can be fast.

Get a '95 - '97, the first generation with the updated 1.8L engine. Pre 1995 had 1.6L engines. Pretty reliable too.

If you are looking for one my friend is selling a sick one in central FL. It's a '93 I believe, with a supercharger, suspension, wheels, and a lot of other goodies.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

                    Bill,

"The old model was a phenomenon. The best-selling sports car the world has ever seen. Probably because it always felt just a teensy bit gay. Yes it was a modern-day and reliable incarnation of the old MG — they even recorded and then copied the sound of the British sports car’s transmission whine — but you just knew that given half a chance this little car would be off to the gentlemen’s public lavatories with its friends George and Michael."

Miata's are among the most fun cars I have driven. They have plenty of room for bigger guys too (as long as the top is down) I am 6'1" 220 and I had tons of room.

I'm serious in saying that a Miata track car CANNOT be beat in terms of value. There is a huge aftermarket in every important area from suspension options to forced induction (if you choose to go that route). Huge online communities with people that know their stuff. The cars are easy to work on and reliable. They are cheapppp. The Spec Miata class is sick competition.

Oh yeah, they also won't swap ends in the wet like a MkII MR2...

I dont know about that.... a Nissan 240sx's aftermarket support seems to be cheaper than a Miata's. My friend has a '92 Miata with a recently purchased 1.8l and suspension + engine mods are nowhere near as cheap as a 240sx.
