Sheared bolt on crank: fixed 12/12/13

I was doing my timing belt and everything was going smoothly until i sheared the crank pulley bolt. Any ideas on how I can get it out?

Use some penetrating oil, then drill it with a left hand drill and use an easy-out.

I don't have access to drill, do you think a 90 degree attachment would work?

It might. Make sure you use a center punch first and drill a pilot hole or use a center bit. Last thing you want is your drill to hop out or drill your hole off center.

If you are trying to remove crank bolt and it is still torqued down to 300ftlb, I suggest drilling it out with a left bit and then using a left tap set and tap it for a nice fat bolt that you can thread in there then use to remove the crank bolt.

I wonder if you could drop the subframe, would it be enough to get at the crank bolt head on. If so, it could help you a lot.

That's just one of the 6 crank pulley bolts. I wouldn't even worry about it. I thought you meant the main crank bolt. I didn't look at the pic the first time...

Start with the right angle attachment and a short section of reverse drill bit.

98% of the time, that does it.

Got reverse bits and a right angle attachment, took 5 minutes max to fix it.
