I do NOT do this. That's impossible unless you're some kind of gymnast!

Hell, those mods would make it less necessary to drop a gear....

google 'double clutch' and do some reading.

i'm going to start trying out this method and see if it helps.

mostly, i gather you're 'fighting the synchros' even when revs are matched and it's most pronounced from second to first.

regardless, time spent learning to double clutch would/should pay off in transmission life.

Double clutch is SOP. Though I usually dont clutch out of the tranny unless I'm accelerating/decelerating aggressively. Clutch stop makes the double clutch a very tight maneuver.

The only time i heel toe into first is when my pads are so far gone i do it to avoid hearing some of the horrible squeel. haha. No but really i wouldn't know because my car is seemingly torque rich when compared to an m42, so yeah, i probly would and am sure i could given the right conditions.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.

i double clutch it into first when i come up to those really big speed bumps where you can go about 5-10 miles an hour over them. it keeps me entertained! lol

Used to do this w/ my friends while doin burnouts in parking lots when u wanna just stay in one spot, pretty damn effective in my book.

From a stop I start my car in second gear from almost every light and my car pulls hard enough in 2nd gear that as long as I am above 2,000 RPM or so I'd might as well leave it in second.
I dont think it makes it harder but concerning everything else you said I completely agree... he just seemed like he WANTED to so I figured I would shoot that out there...

btw TJ... do you have a lightened flywheel and what diff-gear ratio are you using? If you are using a 4.10 or higher then you're right on... 1st gear used with an M20 is completely optional...

Side to side method works the best, ecspecially with a size 9-12 shoe!

We're talking about downshifting though. Thats not how its done to downshift. Either like half of your foot on the brake and rolled onto the gas pedal to blip it (easiest to do and most controllable imo in our cars with pedals pivoting on the floor) or toes on the brakes and the heel rotated over to the gas pedal and blipping it that way. With the pivot on the floor though, using your heel creates a much heavier gas pedal to blip and is a PITA, especially to keep the same pressure on the brakes. Heel/Toe rolling over to the gas is a hell of a lot easier.

The utility of this escapes me.

Yeah BMWGuy I have a lightened flywheel and a 4.10. I hate first gear around town, it gets me like 5 feet off a light before I have to shift.
