I love how people talk like they know something. 40lbs over an m20...damn that is so much weight!

M50 is slower down bottom and up top. Two members have ridden in my b35 swap that had an m52 and a m60b30. Both said how much quicker the m30 makes power.

Period correct, gobs of bottom end and pulls like a train with no dead spots till you bounce revlimiter. Not to mention the m30 is the perfect engine for big numbers with boost.

I went from m20 to m30 and gained almost no weight with a stripped down b35. Only drawback is the swap is more extensively fabrication vs a bolt in m50. That is why most swap the m50 based block.

    The m30 is bulletproof.

The weight thing is a myth if you're talking any of the iron block M5x engines. The weight difference between an iron block M50 & an M30 is only 8kg (17lbs).

When I went from an M20 with AC to an M30 with no AC in "position 3", there was negligible difference in handling... if anything the extra weight helped settle the front end in situations where with the M20 upfront the car would be a bit unsettled with my Eibachs / Bilstein Sports.

For me, the period correctness of the M30 was what I liked about the swap + the torque makes the M30 effortless to drive & the engine looks like it's meant to be there.

The M5x swap requires less parts & the engines are now in wrecking yards at an ever increasing rate (remember that the M30 went out of production in the early 90's, vs. 2006 for the M54!!) which would explain their rise in popularity in recent years.

    I'd take a M30B35 swap over a M50 any day!

    m30 vs 24v swap

I've been perusing the project forum and I see that almost everyone doing a swap is going for m5x/s5x. Why is there no love for the m30 it seems like a good solid swap, but no one seems to be doing it? I really wanna build a boosted m30 one day,but seems like no one here on r3v does it and that makes me wonder why.
Working...
