M3's are experiencing a bubble I believe. I don't know what has gotten e30s so hyped up these past two years, but it'd going crazy. I think that they are gonna go the way of the 240sx. Cool car, gets a cult following, the hype dies down, and the car returns to the cult. Maybe not though. The e30 M3 really is timeless.

Both rad cars, but the M3 definitely seems to have been marketed better. It was purpose built to be the 190e and came after (obviously). As well, most people associate BMWs as sporty and Mercs as comfortable luxury cars. That's big when someone is shopping for a sporty car.

The style on the M3 is a little more timeless than a non evo 190e cossy. Shit, people who aren't into cars are blown away when I tell them my car is an 88. Now, put an evo 2 190e vs sport evo and I'd have to pick the cossy. 4 doors, wide body, huge spoiler, and 17" wheels iirc. Just oozes homoligation. Not to say the sport evo is any slouch, but the changes from the first model isn't quite as drastic externally.

That and market preference really... people are funny in what they're willing and not willing to pay for. Think the mustang vs. camaro deal... imo the mustang is the definitive muscle car, but the camaros tend to bring higher price for whatever reason.
That's cause Camaros are better.... :p

But back to the Benz talk. I want to like that car, but keep seeing 4 doors and have to walk away. Plus I'm not a big MB fan in the first place.

im really only a fan of the diesels. Had a 87 300 turbo diesel and I loved it. The aftermarket support is quite weak, and most kewl parts are hard to find. Everything is vacuum powered which is less of a headache than an electrical system imo. It's a comfortable car, rides nice, but I cant speak for performance since I have a 70hp Diesel slush box. I think the styling is great, but a bit challenging to be different.

Not to mention long gears, and manual trans swaps arent a dim a dozen.

                The only E30 M3 I would take over a 190e Evo 1/2 would be a Sport Evo.

They're such a better car than the M3 as a day to day proposition, its laughable.

I feel that misses the point of buying an old performance car though. I guess it depends on what one considers to be a good daily driver but you dont buy an old hot rod because its a good daily driver.

I love my M3 as a daily driver. It does everything I need it to, without fuss, gets reasonable mileage, is comfortable to drive, is fun to drive, and has all the creature comforts I could possibly want.

Well you have to realize bmw = performance | mercedes = comfort/luxury if anything performance comes 3rd on that list. Even the rear 5 link suspension was designed for absorbing the road.

Bmw is luxury and performance. People talk like the 190 was a bentley compared to the e30, when it wasnt. Over engineered and better built...perhaps but not that much nicer than the e30. When it comes to dtm legends and homologation specials like the m3 and 2.3 16...performance comes first. Both cars were built for racing and fun/performance. The luxury aspect of both cars helped sales when new, but are meaningless for current market values. People simply arent buying either car for their luxury today.

I think the M3 racing history has influenced its price range. That fact that it was more successful I think makes a difference. Like reel mentioned people aren't buying these cars because of luxury. Buyers are more interested in their performance. I wouldn't mind owning a cossie , but am a huge bimmer fean so I'll always go that way.

IMO the w201 2.3/2.5 is a very very underestimated car,, vs M3..
the car itself is a LOT better chassis vs E30,, it is so good that you can almost get close to W124,,

the engine is great,, but the big negative about the car is the transmission,, it is so bulky and boring ,, and that its a shame,,

through the engine is great,, it does not have ITB oem as S14,, thats also pity

but the steering angle is almost 1 turn+ vs e30 M3,, and for those in drifting the W201 and 124 is the best car EVER,, in orignal form to drift,, you can almost go 85° with the car and hold the front tires correct

I also like those RECARO seats ,, and split Bench at the rear .. also RECARO,, and fantastic to sit in... the best rear seat ever created in a car

those w201,, EVO,, EVO I (my favorite of them all)) and the mighty EVO II are all great cars

the EVO II,, have you ever seen such a vulgar car as original,, i dont think so,, and they cost a fortune ,,

The seats are crap, and they have the same HP as an m20...not to mention mech fuel injection. I'm surprised any pass smog anymore.
