Red flag would be one of boring ;-) Not an M3.

Other than that could be a decent DD if you don't mind the cruising pace of it.

My honest opinion, boring...e30 was the last great 3-series chassis.

                To each their own though.

I have an e46 let's just say I drive the e30 more:) and can actually work on it too. I have a 328ci it's a fun car to drive but it's a pain to work on and parts are 2x more expensive.

If your going to get an e46 get a ZHP thats the closest you can get to having a M3 without paying the price and maintenance for one. If your going to get the 323i your just wasting your money if you spend 3k more you can get a very nice ZHP and wont regret it.

e46's sucks when it comes to maintenance everything HAS to be done on time if not the cel light and dash will light up in a flash, and they also can go into safe mode if there's something minor wrong like having a bad battery or a serious issue, half the car will operate and only have like 3 gears when in safe mode.

I've been looking for a 323i 5spd for 3 months and they were all neglected pieces of shit.
All the ones that were in good condition, seller's wanted like $4500+ which I thought was absurd for a 13 year old base model 3 series.

                    I gave up looking.

I'm guessing there was a front end collision that caused the passenger headlight to be replaced with a newer one.

Fair play, I suspect you'd get a more appropriate answer from an E46 specific forum, as distinct from the "blah blah blah not an E30 so it will never handle or be as nice..." which I can see getting posted ;)

The hood also seems to be a slightly different shade. IMO $5000 canadian is still $4700 US, which is a lot for a 14 year old, base model 323i with minimal options (no sports seats, base wheels, non color matched body moldings, non powered seats..).
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Google e46 sub frame tears. A staggering amount will have this issue. I owned one and later realized this issue. Mine had patch work metal welded in before my ownership. Very true statement about the limp mode too.

+1. stay away from early models they tend to have sub frame issues look at the 2003 and up face lift models.
