How do you know what someone wants though? Kind of arrogant if you ask me. You should buy the whole car if you want to rape it.

i can't possibly imagine what is it exactly that you do with 2-3 "eta drivetrains" per trip? how do you possibly know if the "auxiliary" parts you damage are going to be used by someone or not? thats kinda like saying your wife is a worthless piece of shit. so by that line of thinking, no one will miss her if she gets shot in the head because a theif wanted her purse.

as far as the harness is concerned, all you have to do is unscrew the plug. it sounds pretty f'ing stupid and lazy to cut it when you can get it for free with the engine.

for the extra 10 minutes or so it takes to leave the car in a decent way for the next guy, why the hell would you not want to do it? one day you are going to desperately need something off a car and karma says its going fucked up by the time you get to it.

messing up the car to save a few minutes is really the same as stealing. not that i give a shit about the junk yard's profits, but you are stealing their opportunity cost. it is unethical any way you look at it. if that is something you are proud of, then you are making yourself look like a complete toolbag.

I cut the center of e34 subframes out for the oil pans, saves a ton of time. Still bolted to the frame of the car and the mounts are holding it up, I never saw an issue. I am sure if someone needed a subframe, they would be upset. I never understood why people came in and smashed windows out or cut the interior for fun. Most common at the yard near me:

Smashed windows, smashed tires, cut up interior, busted headlights, cutting harnesses for the ECU and other easy to unclip items. Biggest for e30s, cutting the CPS on ETAs for the transmissions when they pull them.

when i'm pulling parts for my cherokee i usually don't give two shits because there are several of them in every junkyard here. and typically most parts on jeeps are already broken before the damn thing even hits the junkyard.

i try to be more civilized on e30s due to the rarity here but if i need to mess something up to get the part i need then i do. that's just how it is.

                  Hi,
I also had the same experience when I visited the salvage auctions for the first time. But now after frequent visits, I am used to all these things.I read this post recently about the etiquette at the auctions.

I do whatever to get the part I want.

It's a junkyard, mostly junk... With the occasional gold that you destroy everything in your path to get to.

Why worry about a harness anyway? You only need the clip. Rewire that bitch right.

As per the example below, agreed. No need to destroy unless it costs more in time than its value.

I hear you, but it's just kind of the way things are at salvage yards.

Personally, I try not to break anything that I don't have to break, but if a piece of plastic or wiring is costing me more time than it should or is of little reuse value, I cut and break.

Example: If I want a window motor, I carefully remove the door panel; I don't just rip it off. However, if I am pulling a fuel rail, I will likely cut the fuel line.

A couple weekends ago, I picked up these E36 comfort seats. I went on a Friday and saw them, but didn't have time to grab them. I went back the next day, and the driver's seat was halfway unbolted and the cupholder was snapped in half. I don't get it. Anyway, I grabbed the seats before some jackass could toss a transmission on them.

Yeah, I'd rather go to the yard than go to a movie, or whatever. At worst, I'll get into some of the late nineties cars (during the car stereo wars) and just extract random speakers, and build cabinets for them. E30 premium sound speakers would blow your mind in a proper TL enclosure.

As far as being an ethical part puller, I'm 50/50. I'm good to the BMWs but I'm kinda hard on GMs and stuff...

i never even gave it much of a thought. I am learning that there are alot of whiny bitches. I dont destroy shit on purpose, but i will destroyshit if i didnt bring a tool that i needed. Perfect example, i found a crackfree dash, when i went for coolant fans for a beetle. i was not going to let a lack of ignition key tell me i cant have that dash for $50. I think some of you need to get over yourselves.

When I took my first steps into a U pull it yard, I thought someone had killed my ass and I was rewarded with heaven. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.

The good news about your post is that you just told everyone that you are a selfish prick who thinks it's OK to destroy anything in your way if there is something you want. I bet you are a real 99% guy too.
