I could never be as bad as the junk yard itself. Never use a wrench when a torch will do.
As for the willful destruction just for fun- these people should be hanged, drawn and quartered.
It's like shooting a tweety bird for target practice, some people should never have been born.
I learned by watching yard employees; get the part the quickest way possible. It is amazing how much faster the torch is.

I have to deal with that to a point. I work for an auto salvage yard as the main parts puller. Other workers will pull parts time to time if I'm not there or I'm busy. They will sometimes be in a rush and will break stuff to get a part out. That really pisses me off. I take Everything apart. I hate it when I look for a part just to find it has been broke by someone taking a part out.

Look, maybe i was being a little harsh. i dont go into the yard and fuck shit up on purpose. You definetly misread that. i dont destroy parts that are worth anything. and , umm no, i am not 99% guy.

I dont destroy shit on purpose, but i will destroyshit if i didnt bring a tool that i needed. Perfect example, i found a crackfree dash, when i went for coolant fans for a beetle. i was not going to let a lack of ignition key tell me i cant have that dash for $50. I think some of you need to get over yourselves.
You don't need to destroy or remove the ignition key to remove the dash. Most of the parts in all cars can be removed with some SIMPLE sockets, wrench, flat and phillip screw drivers. Go buy a cheap tool kit from Harbor Freight and carry it with you.

but seriously tho, went to the junkyard to pull a crack free dash, so pumped to find it then someone had just pulled on the radio part completely ripping it off and made it worthless. Kinda by the HVAC controls. anyways. smh smh.. wow much frustration. such annoying. wow.

I remember one time I needed an m20 "I" head. There was only one 325i in the yard. Popped the hood, and the head was missing!

Some asshole beat me to it and didn't even have the courtesy to cover the block for the next guy! /sarcasm.

My point? Its a fucking junkyard people. Expect it to live up to its name. Just be happy when you find something good and don't get so caught up on trivial shit.

                            When your only options are
"break something to get what you need because you don't have the proper tools"
"drive an hour roundtrip to go home and get said tools while risking your needed part being gone when you get back"
and "ask strangers to use said tools, most of which look scary and/or will tell you to fuck off"
most people are going to go with option one, unfortunate as it is.

That mentality is what needs to be reversed. They're not junkyards. They're salvage yards. The cars are there for the many useable parts they still have, yet all it takes is one selfish jackface to ruin a whole bunch of parts for everybody else. Now that car and all the ruined parts in it are just going to sit there and rot. Like I've written before in this thread, the whole auto "salvage" industry is so inefficient and wasteful and it's because of those who treat it as a free-for-all "junk" yard. Something has to change because it just sucks.
