For shits and giggles. Here's my last Cherokee. If they didn't get 16mpg every where they went I'd buy another. $75 in fuel a week gets old quick.
Had a rust hole on the roof I fixed.
Then I made a horrible looking sub box for the back. It looked black cottage cheese but it sounded decent.
Then I "fixed" the rust on the floors. When I looked it to buy it this was nothing more than a maybe a three finger size hole. Started tapping with a hammer and before I knew it half my floor was gone. Shit. I can't weld so I took the side of the dryer off my EX's drying machine and cut it to make patches.....she still doesn't know, shhh.
Maybe the back isn't bad...this is before I started removing metal. That entire side came out. Had to find another dryer.
Didn't take any finished photos. I sold that Cherokee to my good friend about 3 years ago to buy my e30. So far, the rust hasn't come back on the roof and the floors haven't fallen through and it still runs great.

rusty floors and quarter panels are a big issue. other than that, they just have a few small things that come up like oil leaks and wiring issues. the cooling system is super finnicky but really easy to maintain once you give it a full refresh.
oh and by the way i get 17-20mpg mixed hwy/city out of mine and i really don't drive like a grandma. but it's a manual which helps.
i just ripped the carpet out of mine and bedlined the floor so i wouldn't have to worry about hidden standing water eating through the floorpan. its loud and really hot in the summer but i don't mind.

And I think lifted 2wd trucks are mostly ridiculous. Some pre-runner styled trucks are okay but very few. A properly lowered truck will have just as much, if not more, load carrying capacity of a stock height truck. Hell, it's easier to get shit in the bed if it's lowered.84 325e - 91 325i - 92 318 touring - 91 Trans Am - 01 S4 avant - 03 S-type R - 96 F350 - 15 SS - 84 Biturbo - 91 Defender

XJ is an awesome vehicle if you get the right one. they have issues. likely you will re wire everything in the doors. the wires actually break. you will often have the fan motor stop blowing randomly (to lazy to replace the parts? no prob, wiggle the wire under the hood where it attaches to the motor, it will fire right up again) and so forth...BUT...rugged, go anywhere 4x4...
however, if you could get a 68-72' chev short box like the one pictured...it would be a hard thing to pass up imho...
it's what you want in the end that counts.
