The safety car made the race not the new regs imho. It was entertaining though watching teammates battle each other. Right now Newey is saying I told you asshats the cars will submarine with lower noses. Maldonado hit the lowest part of the car and scooped it. Imagine hitting the gear box, someone's head is gonna get taken off.

Totally agree with this. Whenever the safety car comes out, it essentially 'resets' the pack. The race leader had a comfortable margin until this happened.

Definitely. The best team order came from Red Bull "Seb....Ricciarrdo is faster than you, please let him by" That's a comment none of us were expecting. The battle at Williams was great too. Massa is determined to be the #1 in this squad.

That really was a scary moment, and I agree the nose designs teams are using can have a 'scoop' effect in the right situation such as this one. Makes you wonder if the FIA might step in and order an immediate change, or wait until the off season to amend the rules in the name of safety.

Great racing, and though I was initially pretty upset about the engine sounds, I think it might be better... For live spectators, they probably don't need earplugs because the sound is no longer drilling through your drums into your brain.
At one point in the race Mercedes had 1st-6th places!
Bottas or Hulk should get a win sometime when the two Mercs finally take each other out.

except it was the tire contact that catapulted Gut's car in the air, not the noses.

          exciting race was exciting.

it definitely was tire contact that caused the flip, but i had to watch the slow motion replay a couple times to see it as well.

i honestly think that how the car will behave in the event of a collision is certainly something that the engineers designing these cars all had in mind while developing the aero and chassis. i mean, you don't spend millions of dollars without covering your bases.

what could be a worse PR hit than being the team whose driver died or cause another driver's death because of the way their chassis was designed?

plus, these cars are unfathomably strong. while they certainly wouldn't withstand a collision with a hard, immovable object like a wall, a collision with an object moving at about the same speed could be taken in stride. plus, i'm sure there's reinforcements in the car designed for those situations.
If you were arrested for being a good mechanic, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

I think Maldonado did intentionally to bring the Pace car. It just looked so intentional.

Why? His teammate wasn't fighting for anything important.

No, Crash-danado just has no business in the top flight of racing. His tens of millions of PDVSA sponsorship cash are the only reason he still has a drive.

I'll be interested to see if Honda tries to copy the Mercedes turbo solution, since they aren't in the series yet, I don't know if their engine is subject to the same development freeze as the other cars.

At what point does someone say Alonso cant develop cars. He has never developed a winning car. Only inherited winners. He has been at ferrari and every year the chassis is piss poor. What has he done to improve the chassis. He is a skilled driver no doubt, but I wonder how good he is at development. I understand they are losing out on power , but that seems just one of the many problems, and I cant help think Alonso shares some responsibility in it. Perhaps I am way off base but to me he hasnt done much to improve his cars over the years, just drive around inherent problems.

I've started to think this too- It also has a lot to do with Ferrari losing their top designers and engineers while not replacing them with people of the same caliber (iirc).

                          And there is the answer.

If Haas team gets into f1 for 2015, I strongly believe they are comming with the Honda engine, since they are somewhat familiar in Indy series. Sometimes I wonder why insn't BMW comming back to f1. I know Williams hate'em now, but Williams is carrying the M collors ever since. lol

I read bmw pulled f1 funding to put it towards the electric/hybrid I3/i8 program and to a lesser extent to DTM.

I would love to see Haas in F1 but I am not holding my breath. It seems north America is a low priority as long as Bernie is in power but I hope I'm wrong.
