    m30b35 vs s52b32.....really

I've read and read at nausium over both engines, YouTube'd them all.

This year is the year I lose the m20b25 from my e30 vert.

It was boosted (short period) last summer and I had a bad experience with a boost build, so I'm sticking with n/a.

I'm not a "fast" driver. I love torque, and feeling the power of the engine, getting thrown back into your seat sorta thing.

With that said, I was researching s52...yet m30b35 numbers are quite close in comparison....

Has anyone done both swaps? Which was easier?

Just bite the bullet with the s52+zf which is going to be pretty costly, or is the m30b35 which is a fraction I the cost, and a seemingly easier swap...

I'm at a cross road now...
    Thoughts?

S52 will be much easier. The M30 is a BIG motor.

That said, the M30 will get you more of that low end torque you are after.

Good question for comparison. Im also undecided on whether to go boost but i still might since I have an unmolested 70k mile m20.

                Frankie you in Ontario?

My main concern over M30's are quite simple.
They're tired for the most part, whereas S52's are still quite new.

The more I look into this, the S52 swap actually looks much easier when compared to the M30...especially when you have companies like Markert and TRH offering up plug and play C101's and coolant temp sensor re-threads. ZF's are a direct bolt up too.

M30 swap seems a bit more laborious, and you need to get the engine positioned *exactly* right...

                I dunno I dunno!!!

I'd like to start collecting parts soon..but parts for which swap is the question.

I'm doing everything myself in my garage..I have hand tools, and air tools, engine stand and cherry picker..I'm pretty much set facility-wise.

I'm in waterloo. Really all that is needed for the swap is to knock the firewall back an inch right where the head sits. Everything else bolts right up, custom engine mounts, trans mount, driveshaft, cooling system all there ready to go. My plan if I keep the motor is to use the m20 engine harness I pull off my motor, it needs a few wires lengthened, but all connectors plug right into the m30 sensors, and obviously since it's an m20 harness it plugs right into the c101.

The simplicity of the m30 is the beauty. Cheap sensors, not overly complicated with expensive sensors that need replacing etc. The m52 I got for my other car only had 100k on it, and although the compression tested excellently, I still had to drop about 800 bucks replacing sensors and gaskets.

Mr. Burns, did you not have a thread like this regarding the M60 vs S52 engine? What happened to that idea? Not trying to sound rude or anything, just intrigued as to what may have changed your mind.
