2.0L S14s made as much power as the 2.0L S42 engines, but S42s were known for a more usable powerband, and a slight increase of torque ... comparatively, at a lower rpm, due to BTCC redline restrictions (8500rpm).
That explains it. I forgot that the S14 was based on the older M10 build.

Lol, my mate is busy building a Replica, of this motor... He's got a thread on Bimmer forums. So far he's got the bottom end running, with a Stock top end... for now. Made 2kw more than a M52 328i E36 (can't remember the exact dyno figure) He's only running a 11.8:1 CR though compared 2 the Real S42, and he's not gonna use Slide Throttles, but rather normal S50B32 ones...

Would be 10x cooler if it were in an e30 m3 chassis.

does it use vanos to make said more useable powerband? or just DOHC.

12.4:1 compression - how does that compare to the s14?

                  cool stuff

I don't think the S42 had Vanos; since it more towards the M42 engine than the newer MXX models....

Gruppe A S14 motors ran 12.0:1 (2.5L) but I am sure the older 2.0L S14 STW cars (E36 models) ran a bit higher compression
