Alright I want to get to the bottom of this

After a lot of research I came to conclusion that my car is deffinatly euro and the engine is m40b16 model 316i I can't find any vins anywhere but I have late model tail lights and it doesn't look like it's custom fitted and I have plastic bumpers ok so I think it's now 88-91 e30 coupe but! I have double chrome window trim. The color says atlantisblau on the strut tower. The car is getting a engine rebuild right now as the m40 broke for what it's most famous for the camshaft and valves need replacing. So when I look up my vin on the registration it says 85 316 lapisblau and optional automatic transmission when my cars manual? :| lol I have a hopeless case

You're most likely spending money on rebuilding a motor that isn't worth while as opposed to swapping your engine for the same amount, regardless of what answer you're seeking.

      Nice wheels.

Oh yeah dont worry i know what i am doing first im only 16 and i have to wait until the end of summer to save enough money around 2000$ for a m50 swap but that has to wait i originally wanted to just park the car for 3 months since it wont run but my parents insisted that it at least works so as much as i hate 4 cylinder bmw engines i really wanted to swap a m20 in it just for now but being that i need a new transmission too it was going to be up towards 600$ so thats out of the picture then i considered a new 4 cylinder engine instead of rebuilding this which was more then 500$ so i had to stick with a rebuild which cost me 300$ and 50$ labor for everything i just went the cheapest way

you can usually find the info on the door jam. have you taken off your front bumper it has a vin inside and take like 5 mins to take off, also some models had a bulid sheet under the rear seat, gl.

Yeah e30s in this country pretty much hit rock bottom and their has been a huge! Drifting scene so the prices are going up everyone is asking 4000$ and up now being I'm still young I hope in a couple of years it value will go up and I plan on doing the whole car Id never sell it and since I bought it I had at least 20 people ask me for sale and it's only been 2 months

Your car is a late model judging by the rear wheel arches. Updated body style (lights, valences, and wheel arches) came out in 88 and plastic bumpers came out on 89+ So your car is at the very oldest, an 88 model.

What were you saying about chrome trim btw? Not all the late models came with shadowline trim

yeah i know but i thought only the early models got the chrome trim on top of the doors and around the windows too in other words their are 2 layers of chrome vs the late models that are non shadowline only have 1 layer
