E30 Service Hood Position

I know on e36, e39's, and newer BMW's have a way to make the hood go near vertical to access the engine bay easier. Ive been trying to look it up for the e30, but Ive come up short. Or maybe we dont have one?

I find it pretty easy to just take it off completely and set it aside. I'm not the biggest guy and have no problem removing and installing it myself.

I just take it off, but only if i need access to the front of the engine.

E36 SEDAN has a service position- but does the coupe?
And I thought THAT was an attempt at mitigating the complaints
about losing the front- hinged hood....

I see yea if I had to I would take off the good but there are sometimes where I think it be easier to just lift it up a bit more. As said above I don't want to damage the grill.

they should have kept the front hinge design, it looks really cool doesnt it? and plus, isn't it more safe? lets say your latch fails for some reason on your rear hinge hood, and it flies up causing you to crash into a bus full of little kids and fall off a cliff into a river. this can't happen on a front hinge hood!

e36 coupe definitely doesn't. I cracked the windshield in my coupe doing exactly that. The points at the corners of the hood hit the windshield if you go much higher than the hood shocks allow.

I take it off. So much easier to work on and only takes about 5 min.

^ I agree with this dude. I have hooks on my walls in my garage that I can hang the hood up and out of the way.

Hood comes off rarely, plenty of room to work the way it was designed.

Aligning the hood when reinstalling is such a pain in the ass though. Easier to unclip the hood strut if you need extra room.
