    Should I buy a 2002

Okay so I need some opinions.

I was told my friends neighbor had an old BMW that has been sitting with a car cover on it for about two decades... Actually it was parked in 1981.

I decided to knock on his door and ask him about, and
I found a one owner 1972 BMW 2002 Aplina edition.

Now for the good, the bad, the ugly and the rusty parts.

    Good:
    It's APLINA EDITION
All the parts are there; however, most of the trim is sitting in the trunk.
The interior is in great condition (the seats are flawless not a single tare)
    It's a stick shift.
    The trunk is solid
The body panels are virtually all dent free

    The Bad:
There is a single huge crack in the dash
At one point or another some mice made a nest in the glove box
The clutch pedal won't move at all, and the car is in gear

    The Rusty:
The sub-frame mounts and the rocker panels are basically dissolved.
From what I could see the floors were pretty solid...However, I was laying in snow and freezing, so I didn't get the best views....

    The Ugly:
Crazy old man said he thought it was worth $2,600.00
I almost laughed right in his face!
I told him I didn't want insult him, so I kept the $350 offer I had in mind to myself. (aka cash in my pocket at the time)

I'm considering making him an actual/ reasonable offer later.
What do you guys think I should offer him?

Sorry I forgot to take pics at the time....

I've been doing some research on fixing the rust, and looks to be a pretty daunting task...

Yea; budget about ten grand to get it sorted.
But, if you have the ability to move this forward you will have a stellar car, no doubt.
(gee... what did I just say that you didn't already know?)

I forgot to take pics like an idiot.
Also the car is surrounded by like a foot of snow. I had to dig spots around the car to see under it...
          UGH no gloves or shovel...

            You sound like an idiot.

What makes you think the car is an Alpina car? There is no Alpina "edition"

If it is an Alpina car, the intake alone could be worth double his asking price.

If you pull on the gearshift, it will move into neutral. You do not need the clutch to be functional.

Rocker arms are inside the engine and aluminum, not susceptible to rust.

I could go on but let's start there.

Almost laughed in his face?

Try finding another complete 2002 with Alpina parts on it for $2600. I think you've got to have some respect for the asking price that people have for vintage bimmers.

Even though it's far from vintage, I walked away from a e36 m3 today. For various reasons the seller couldn't go less than $5700; with the issues it had I think it's only worth $4700 max. I said sorry but I can't do $5700, wished him luck on the sale, and moved on. No need to be a dick about it.

I suggest you shouldn't buy it and leave it to someone else who knows what they are looking at and appreciates it... instead of buying it just so you can try to impress your 'bros' on your new pickup

'Hey broooo look at this APLINA EDITION I just scored for 3 bills!'

You're on the wrong forum here.
Go over to bmw2002faq.com after you have pics of the car and especially the motor and it's relevant alpina bits, post the pics and then ask your questions.
Alpina engine pieces are rare and pricey. $2600 could be cheap....

That's mean when you laugh at someone's asking price

It all depends on how bad that rust is. Ask Deutschman about rust repairs on a 2002, sometimes it's an uphill battle. If it's a rusty car with alpina parts, parts might be the keyword here

I wish I had an APLINA EDITION 2002. I would get mad poon with the homies with my rusty rocker arms.
