    They're taking for-fuckin'-ever!

I brought my e30 to the shop a few weeks ago. I want them to put my M30 in because they have shit that I need, so i'm at their mercy....

They have to get a matching tranny from one of their parts cars out in the yard.
They take my engine out/ put the new M30 engine/tranny in. and tha'ts it

They are real nice guys, but they are just procrastinating with the job bigtime!. I go there to visit to see how they're doing about every 3 days, and they havent' touched it...

how do i ask them nicely, "you aren't busy at the shop, can you start soon? i want this done asap!" without either offending them or pissing them off..... bc i dont want angry mechanics working on my car......

Any thoughts?? or tough luck, wait it out?

Are you paying them? What was the original agreement? How well do you know them?

anyway you look at this arrangement, you will end up paying them money. that means that they are in your service and that you are well within your means to tell them to hurry the fuck up.

Tell them you need it done by a certain date. Tell the office lady so you dont talk directly to the mechanics.

Wouldn't that slow the process down?

no way, once they start drinking they will get bored and need something to do, like working on his car. ;)

think of it as a tip... only mechanics don't want your measily $2, but they do like free beer.

Dont go to the office lady, that just makes you look like a bitch. You dont deal with grease monkeys that way.

You are just going to have to be on thier backs about it. There is a reason these guys aren't doctors.

For project like this you should have a budget, target date of completion, expectations, warranty issues, and firm price set.

They are not getting paid hourly are they?

must be a shade tree mechanic. Seriously do you want your mechanic working on your car with a buzz? Oh the bolt's not torqued, screw it. It's not my car.

haha, good pints guys.... Yeah, i told him what price i didnt' wanna go over. I AM paying them,
Trust me lol, i have a budget, completion date... but when i asked him last week he's like, "we're swamped", so what am i supposed to do??

I never talked time frame with him though. The only extent was that i was like, "in a month, i'd like to take it away".... so i think he knows..

I just don't wanna piss them off.
I will, however keep showing up and asking him, "hey let's bring it in and check it out" kinda thing..

Once i get this thing in my own garage, i'll feel 10x better..

                        Thanx for the help guys
oh yeah, are you really serious about the beer? think it would be a nice gesture?? obviously not buy enough to get them drunk.. lol

Frank - sucks that they're keeping you waiting. But, with a big project like this, it's easy to throw it on the back burner. To them, doing a job that takes a few hours is money that day - your project is money in a few weeks/months. They have no real motivation, and they can easily just keep procrastinating. The audio shop I used to work for always pushed big projects aside for daily projects, even though we blocked off a certain number of days/hours to work specifically on the big project.

Good luck with it - keep us posted. Do they know what they're doing? aka - what parts will be needed for the swap, what position they're mounting the m30 in?
