I have no hate on the iX; it's an e30 of course. I guess I just didn't know much about it to know exactly what to think about it

I guess what I should have directed OP to say which would people prefer: iS or iX?
I know mostly it would all depend on people's intended purpose for the vehicle, but in a general sense, which people would choose if they had a choice and which one they found to be more desirable in the market.
That's not at all what your original post said. For someone who "has no hate" and "doesn't know much about it", you didn't have much of an issue constructing a checklist of "facts" that make it inferior to it's RWD counterpart. Just sayin'. ;)

This is almost a pointless discussion. It's like coupe vs sedan. BMW made different iterations because there was a market for derivatives of the car. If the RWD car could do as well in bad weather as the xi, the xi wouldn't exist. If the xi had the same handling dynamics as the traditional RWD BMW, we might not have RWD at all.

I DD'd a WRX for a number of years, and I do love the snow capability of a proper AWD car. But, in the end, I sold it and bought a RWD car. I now get around in the snow in my E46 330ci. For me, the RWD feel is worth the trade off for having a car that's only capable in the snow, as opposed to being amazing. Others want that AWD platform. It's awesome that it exists in the E30 chassis.

i've owned 2 iX's and one rwd E30. I still prefer the RWD in terms of driveablility....i always preferred rwd cars over awd and being able to get the rear loose on command...so I think it comes down to preference. The simple fact that i live in the Northeast, and NEED an awd car to get around (esp to ski resorts), is why i own an iX. Not really into it for the rarity aspect, bc if that was the case mine would be a garage queen.....which it isn't. I know down the road I'm going to regret using mine as a daily since they're becoming harder to find in good shape....but I always believed in using a car for what it was meant to do

I think we established that in my first few posts ;)

The point is, we don't see snow, but we still have Cali e30 nuts that turn up at meets that think they're some kind of elites cause AWD

I just found it funny because we live in a climate where AWD is almost 0% needed

Thus, since there is no equalizing factor in snow, I was wondering if there was something I was missing for these guys preferring the iX

I like having something unique. Whats not to love about the first awd BMW (and mechanically controlled, not computer controlled systems)??

I have only ever seen two other e30s with these wheels on them so wheel selection is not 'limited'. No spacers on the below photo, just hub centric rings.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

I wouldn't mind having an IX.

But, I'd probably put a plow on it. Because 20+ feet of snow yearly.

(And y'all have no idea if I'm serious or not. Bueno)

We just hit 350" of snow this week here, my e30 stays parked and I've been driving my Subaru for 90% of the winter. I like the idea of the iX, but I honestly don't know if I could bring myself to drive one in the winter here with it being so brutal, not to mention the thousands of tourists driving and parking like idiots 2-3 days a week. I think it'd be too hard on me to see a nice early awd BMW deteriorate from that kind of use & abuse.
