    best mechanics gloves?

I currently just use disposable nitrile gloves when doing mainentance on my car. They work fine but tear easily and dont protect my hands from the occasional bleeding knuckles. Wondering what gloves ya'll have used that are good.

Mechanix gloves are overpriced and wear out. Or I just have destroyed every single pair I've had far too quickly. Rubber dots FTW. Added bonus, handling hot things. If the rubber melts with a swipe of the hand, too hot. If not, It's not. Second bonus. 12 pairs for $9. Downside, not quite as tactile for delicate or small stuff.

I prefer these, slightly more expensive, but a nicer snugger fit.

EDIT: Also, very, very bad for welding. They catch slag and drop it straight to your skin. Made that mistake once making just a tack...

I always thought mechanix gloves were too pricey and they dont look like they are that durable

This is correct. The ones I linked above are better quality (IMO) and cheaper.

I use Mechanix gloves all the time in the shop and I love them. I'm not sure why you guys are having durability issues, but the pair I bought almost three years ago just got its first tear. If I don't use those (oily jobs and the like), we have Raven rubber gloves.

MRC industrial gloves. Look for the Kevlar fabric versions.

My mechanix gloves have held up fine they did get a couple holes but that was my mistake. I've used them a lot since putting the holes in them and they haven't gotten any bigger.

i just use disposable gloves, have a few boxes around the garage.

i found a brand that makes blue gloves and they seem to hold up alot better than any white ones i've tried

I agree on the Mechanix gloves not lasting, I wish they did, I love them so much I keep buying new pairs when they wear out.

In the past 2-3 years I have probably gone through 4-5 pairs.

One thing I have noticed is that they are susceptible to melting when exposed to high heat/flame. They also seem to rip at the finger tips.

                        Thinking of trying these next:

Anyone have any recommendations for real leather varieties? I feel as though a large part of the durability issues lie in synthetic leather they use.

Two layers. First layer is latex free exam gloves, outer layer is blue nitrile gloves. Don't know why but this combination seems to last a long time for me. When the nitrile gloves rip, your hands still stay clean until you replace the nitrile gloves.

That's exactly how mine got holes I was cutting metal and thought it was cool enough to touch with the gloves boy was i wrong it when straight through the gloves and into my fingers. I only use gloves for certain things other wise its bareback lol I feel more accomplished when I look at my hands and they are straight black lol.

When going without gloves I always hated all the grease that would get under my nails and take forever to clean. I found that by lightly scraping my nails across a bar of soft soap would keep a lot of grease from getting under them.
