    Soft close doors history

Trying to solve a disagreement between some friends about what car manufacturer actually released the first car that had soft close doors. I believe it to be mercedes but I'm not the kind of person to make a statement without first finding facts.
Maybe my horrible research skills are the reason I didn't come across any info on said question so if Anyone has an idea or even a link with some info on exactly who "invented" the soft close door that would be awesome.

I had a Mercedes W124 wagon (1986-1995 body style) with a soft close rear hatch.

idk but I wish my vert had em. Closing the doors with the top down and the windows up is kinda scary..
