Dearest Stu,
when did I talk down to you about your S50 conversion? If you were as quick as making judgements about me as you were in really watching me at TT, you would have noticed me looking your car over pretty damn closely when it was up on the rack. I was checking things such as oil pan clearance, your suspension mods and upgrades, infact I was thinking of you the other day, and how I would like to get another look at your car, being that it is a "near by" S50 Conversion. I never talked down about your S50, but I didn't care for the attitude people had about my S52 conversion and the IXT. I really don't care what people think about my conversions, not all people like my S62 into my M535i conversion either but I am still doing it!..... Infact, I remember being impressed my your statement that you could beat M3's with your S50?!
If my car is ugly, so be it, I don't care..I LIKE IT! It is not like an M3, e30 or e36, and I like that, because one thing I saw at TT was ENOUGH M3's and it made me realize that everybody and their brother has an M3, e30 or E36. M3's are like the 5.0's Mustangs and the new 05 Mustang will be the same as the older 5.0's..... everyone has one or two or three....
Yes, I like euros, always have, always will, but then again I like all BMWs pretty much and at the age of 40, I can have just about any car I want but chose a few rare and unique cars then modify them to make them the ultimate sleepers....just imagine when I decide to build a track car.......
Just a thought for you Stu, in the last 3 years I have brought back over 15,000 lbs of euro parts from Germany and England, and some of them could have been for you if you had played your cards right, but now that I have mine, I only bring back special parts for special friends such as Todd. BTW, he is designing and building Turbo kits for the m20 and m30's which will eat S50's for lunch.
Sorry for the rant, just don't talk crap about me or my cars and expect me not to answer........where ever and whoever you are.....
BTW, I am looking at the 525ix for upgraded drivetrains for the e30 IX, I think with a bit of modifications you could make them work as well as having a 5 lug conversion, remember these cars came with S50 too...'

A little more from me then I am done, M50 S50 whatever, it was 2:30 am and I just got home from work. As far as the oil pan, you take the front half of the M3 oil pan and the rear half of the ix oil pan and weld them together, is that a hack job, to me it is no different than the way you had to slightly twist the trannie to get it into your e30. Modifying these cars is like European hotrodding, as long as you think it out and do everything you can and to the best that you can, all is good. I plan on rebuilding all of the drivetrain and beefing it up as much as I can while I am there, I am going to lengthen the splines on the axles to get more meshing area, rebuilding both diffs, trannie and transfer case and like I said before I am looking at the 525ix for more upgrades. The latter 325ix models (91)did use a couple of pieces in the drivetrain that were later used in the 525ix, my connections in europe said that the two drivetrains are very simular and possibly could be made to work with some custom fabrication.
As far as weight of the 325ix drivetrain, it adds another 150 lbs to the weight of the car, which is still under 3000 lbs. Most of you kids have more than 150 lbs of subs and amps in your car, atleast my weight is needed and functional. My cars may see some driver school time but no serious track time. So what does it matter, I need an AWD and jsut wanted what I considered the ultimate BMW AWD. That is what I am going for here. And Stu if you are going to be at VIR in March, I will be too, not for the entire weekend just for Sat and Sunday and in the IX or Kormans Open House.
Anyone can get an IX Touring, you can import them back if you are willing to pay for it, i found this one Up North and yes some of the pics are older when it was in Germany but I haven't had time to take any recently and I am currently running Borbet 5 Spokes with snows on it, planning on finding a nice set of 16's to run on it in the summer maybe 17's. Digitwave, what size are yours in the pics you posted? Are those the Tstar Replicas?
ANyway, I am done now, but when this car is done I will stack it up against any e30 and most e36's, in ANY weather and when your complaining that it is snowing outside and you can't drive your car, remember I can.....
You guys really need to check out TCD's turbo kits, more bang for the buck!
TCD's kits look to very well sorted, however I'll hold all judgements until after I see some dyno sheets.
Welcome to the site, and dont mind Stu, he is our resident hot head. ;)
I for one would like to see more pictures of your car, in its current state.
Chris he did post dyno sheets on here and his webpage of his M30 turbo system. He also showed us slip times from Atco raceway back in January of how quick the car was with low boost.
Congrates for have a cool car in the US. Yes i was skeptcal of it being here in the US but if Todd says it's here I believe him.
I had thought of the same idea you are pursuing but, won't have the finacial backing to do it. I had thought about doing it with my Touring. but it's to be left unmolested as a 318. Cheap on gas and cheap all together. If I can find someone who has personelly brought a car in and the give me the figures for amount I should reasonably expect to pay I might bring one back with me.

AFAIK, the drivetrain on the 525ix is exactly the same as the E30 ix, the only difference being the oil pan (M50 instead of M20). I think adapting E34 struts to an E30 would be a lot of work! I still think an ix 5 lug is possible, maybe with custom hubs. in any case, BBK's do fit the ix (in the front anyway) so even if you stay with 4 lug you're covered.
If you haven't already, join the 325ixclub mailing list on yahoo, I'm sure the guys there would love to see your 325ixt and hear about your engine conversion, plus if there's something about the ix you want to know, you can find it there. the signal to noise ratio there is pretty low too, since most of these guys do their own work and people who are morons need not try and work on one. :)
also, I really don't think the ix drivetrain weighs 150lbs - the center diff suprized me by how light it was (I don't think anyone here can say they've dropped one ;) ). the front diff is definetly lighter, being a simple open design, the only other weight is the half shafts. I'm guessing it's around 100lbs, about 45 for the center diff and the rest up front. Remember, the 1988 325ix came LOADED, heated seats, ski pass through, winter package, ect etc. the curb weight is listed at 3010lbs. If you look at the weights of later ix's, the weight actually drops to 2950, which is 100lbs more than a 325is (2850). later ix's came stripped (like mine :( ).
maybe next time I have it all apart, I'll weigh the peices to find out for sure :)

I'm talking about the M20 turbo setup. ;) The M30 one already is amazing in my book!

I remember a quip from your direction regarding what was under my hood. I don't mind. I loved your E28, I thought it was a real piece of work. An M62 swap would make it astonishing. I say go for it.
No need to get anal though. I clearly complimented your swap in another post, mentioning that an E30 Touring with a euro 6-throttle would be a real machine. (I wonder if a carbon airbox will fit in the E30's engine bay....)
BTW, I'm in Mars Hill....and my name is Stuart McHenry.

Hey----(I don't know your name)
I wasn't referring to a 'hack job' as in, poorly done.
About the drivetrain, what diff's do you plan to use? Did the iX Touring have the same diff options as the coupe/sedans (3.91/5spd, 4.11/auto)? Also, what transmission did you have in mind? I'd like to see you retain the VC iX diffs.
Don't jump to conclusions on weight. ;) "Most of you kids have more than 150 lbs of subs and amps in your car, atleast my weight is needed and functional." Whoa! There are a lot of 'kids' on this board that drive 318is's for their lightweight and tossability. There are a lot of people with lightweight stereo systems (free-air subs, etc). For the record, my car has the standard stereo system with a couple upgrades, and the car weighs just over 2600 pounds--M50, big gearbox, big diff. A lot of us are concerned with our cars weight!
What is the date on the Korman Open House? I should be there.
I started to register for the March VIR school, but decided against it for other reasons.
We've seen some of the stuff TCD does, and it is good looking and seems to really perform!! I am looking forward to seeing his 325i after he gets it completed.
BNC you been working late!! welcome to the e30 boards. TCD had to get used to the different temperment also I believe. The MeltingPot was 210.00 out the door last night.
Harrahs was another story too.
