I think the Ford 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost might be a good E30 engine

What about the Chevy ecotech motor? Came in rwd on the Pontiac solstice so transmission is less of an issue.Leave a comment:

Pretty Awesome:
252 Horsepower @ 5,500 RPM
270 lb. ft. of torque @ 3,000 RPM
When used with Engine Control Pack M-6017-20T and 93 octane unleaded fuel, torque is increased 90 lb. ft at 2800 RPM - with a significant increase up to 4200 RPM.
All-aluminum construction - about 55 pounds lighter than a comparable naturally aspirated V6 engineLeave a comment:

Robert (peerless) has done this. I cant remember the outcome. I will try to find the thread.Seems like the small lightweight turbo 4-cylinder from the Ford Focus ST would be a good candidate for an E30 swap. Ford Racing sells a crate engine and also an ECU and wiring kit . It looks like a salvage motor pulled from a 2013-14 ST runs about $3k. Mated up to a 6-speed I think it'd be pretty awesome.Leave a comment:

That's actually kind of genius in an incredibly stupid way. I like it.Leave a comment:

Solution
- Buy $500 beater
- do not license or insure
- target Focus ST
- smash said beater into focus ST
- Flee the scene by foot, air or donkey
- watch local insurance action
- PROFIT

Would like to see someone try this. Crate motor is like $7k so I doubt someone in here will. They are like 250hp from the box though.Leave a comment:
