    '66 2000cs on ebay-what am i missing here?

so...i was perusing the net and i came across this auction. i think it is very cool and well done but i just don't see the 75,000.00 reserve, let alone the 165k buy it now price this guy is asking? i could perhaps see 30-35k? it never actually says anywhere that it was a factory alpina car. besides, who cares after it has been made into a racer anyway? if someone were to go to all this trouble, why start with an m10? wouldn't you think an m30 would be a better platform to win races with? what does r3v think?

i am having trouble posting a pic. maybe someone can help me out?

That thing looks like a blast.

Would not pay that much, but it looks like such a fun car. 201hp N/A M10? Really?

i think its going to be for sale for a very long time. besides, for the money he's asking, that is a ridiculously shitty ad. he really needs to look at other auctions of cars in that price range and mimic them.

^ this. $75000 and reserve not met. you could build 2 of these cars and still be under that asking price.

$10k for car, 15k for body, paint, cage. 10k for engine, 2k suspension and 5k for misc stuff. tops $45k car.

Thing is sick IMO the second he put a fuel cell and cage in it he ruined any chance of getting a good price for it. If I collected old BMW I wouldn't want a track car I would want a pristine OEM example not a track rat.

Well, I believe he did spend that much on it. It's got the right names attached to it, and the build details look near perfect.

He is certainly ambitious on his engine output estimates and although Terry is one of the best, that number seems high. Wouldn't let that detract from an otherwise very healthy race engine.

If you've ever been to vintage racing, you'd also realize that swapping in an M30 would instantly make it illegal for it's class. You also have to understand that a portion of the price is also the price of admission to have a car that is Monterey Historics-elligible. To the right person, this would be a cheap way to get in with a rather well-healed group of racers.

I dunno, admittedly not knowing anything about 2000CS coupes it seems unbelievably overpriced and not really 100% true to vintage. First of all, nothing states why it's an Alpina, what's different from a stock 2000CS, or why it's the only one like it. From the description in the Ebay ad, the car is far from what a vintage-prepared 2000CS should be. E21 limited slip, custom rear axles and CV joints cobbled together from 2002 and E21 parts, adjustable camber and caster at all four corners, 5-speed dogleg Getrag close ratio box, COMPLETELY non-standard brakes (4Runner calipers? Really?), struts tied into the roll cage...very wrong.

As far as the M10 stats, 200hp doesn't seem that ridiculous...we race against guys with Elva Mk7S and Mk8 sports racers that make far more than 200hp.

Also, the 2000CS is seriously ugly.

M10 running DCOE45's, 11.5:1 compression, 316 cam.... 200 is optimistic. But Terry is a great engine builder and some dyno's are friendlier than others.

Drysump, 48's, 326 hollow cam, and 12.5:1+ comp...... then I'd expect 200 from the M10. This is combo you'd likely see in those Elva's. Not like I do this every day.

Racecraft is one of the better known vintage race restoration shops in the northwest, think you can find more pics in their gallery.

I've seen that car. I'm sure you'd spend that much (if not more) doing it yourself.

It wasn't a 'track rat' when it was up here.

Byron'll get 225 out of a N/A M10 for you for $20k or so. But at well over 12:1, I think.

It's built for SOVREN, which means it's cheating in all the ways they allow, and that's not cheap.

                      And it's stupid pretty...

...and no, I wouldn't spend much more than $10k on it, myself, because it's SUCH a SOVREN car...

No offense intended Skifree, we don't work with M10s so it's all just observation from my end. That said, are those other modifications legal for vintage over there?

If it's a true alpina race car and that's documented then it's worth it but if it was just built that way I say too steep
