Buying an e30 and needs a 5 speed swap

I'm buying an 1989 325is auto and looking to get some info on doing a 5 speed swap. First I was wondering if car came with a 4.10 diff or something else? The owner is not sure. Also how much should I expect to pay to get a 5 speed swap and if there is any upgrades that should be done while they are doing it? Let me know. Thanks

automatics come with a 4.10, yes.

swaps can vary in cost because some people throw a junkyard trans in complete with 20 year old clutch, PP, bearings, etc. Really, a Getrag 260 costs around $300 or so. A clutch kit can be 400-500, everything else is probably a few hundred more (clutch master/slave, shift kit, all the misc. clips, bearings, washers, bolts, etc).

If it were me I'd do the delrin shift carrier bushings, new selector rod joint, delrin rear carrier bushing insert, and a DSSR with a mild lever like the Z3 1.9. that will of course add some cost vs stock parts or used junkyard stuff.

First swap I did was under budget and I got it done for about $520

I splurged/needed extra work done on the second swap and paid out $720 minus $50 that I sold my old trans for

I think i spent about $420 on 90% of my swap, then paid $145 to machine/lighten the flywheel, and a decent amount more to reseal the trans and for all types of fluid. all-in-all, probably $750 for it. I'm not counting the 4.10lsd that i got for ~$180 a few years ago.

Oh, and you probably have an open 4:10 diff. So unless you like 4.5K rpms on the highway, you will probably be adding in the cost of a lower geared diff.
