how to tell what year drive shaft

once a driveshaft is out of the car, how do you tell what year it is from. I think one of mine is from an 87, but i want to measure whatever it is that is different on the 8/87 and under.

You such a stickler for the tech forum :)

seriously though, just about every post in the general forum can be put somewhere else in r3v. Might as well not even have a general.

but what is the DIFFERENCE in the shaft, i know the guibo sizes are different. why do you need to buy a different center bearing?

becuase the chassis mount is different. FYI All m20 driveshafts non ix driveshafts are basically the same, in 87 certain cars got the larger guibo, and from 9/87 on BMW changed the way the center support bearing mounted. But either the old or new bearing will work on either an early or late driveshaft or vise versus.
