What if I was to just make this an auto-x beater? strip it, weld in a cage and chip it? What if I got it for 800? sold the interior and made some money back?

Everything in the interior is good besides the carpet and a tear in the driver bolster.

I know it's alot of work, but I can do it all myself, I am a very good welder and my dad owns a metal/wood shop.

I'd get this bad boy, one of my e30's has a little less rust then this and it's not really a problem. My opinion is anything under $1000 is pretty good, just slowly fix the rust as you go along with it. So on that note I say go for it.

            No.

            NO.

Rust has gotten into the bones of that car. It's done. Buy it as a parts car, or don't buy it at all. And what you see if usually only half of it. For the time you spend fixing that car, you would be WAY ahead if you simply traveled a bit to get a more solid car to start with. If E30s were super rare, then I might be more encouraging, but they aren't nearly rare enough to justify taking on that much of a project.

Even if you do decide, for whatever reason (maybe you hate yourself) to buy that car, don't pay more than $500. If you can weld/fab, you're better prepared than most to take on that project, but I would only buy that car if you really love welding.

Wow your expectations are pretty low then. As others said I'd RUN rather then walking. I know you see this as "oh damn, maybe I can pic this up for $1000" or something like that, but your better off spending $2000 on a more solid platform. That cross member for the transmission looks like it would be a pain to remove! If you have to, offer $300 cause that's the top dollar a junker would pay, and that's where it belongs. Just my

Alright guys, I have thought about it and I think I'm going to let this one go. SO would anoyone be interested in helping a brother out and looking for an e30 for around 1~3k? I'll drive to get it up to around 1k miles. But I need to be assured it's in good condition.

P.S. Thanks so much for the help guys, I really appreciate the help, even though it was not the news I wanted to hear. I'm new to the e30 scene and I would love all the help I can get! Seriously thank you. E-mail me at tyschuring@gmail.com or PM for help finding cars please! BTW I Live in Bloomington Il 61701

Good move. If I were you, I'd start looking at Colorado / New Mexico / Texas areas on Craigslist. Maybe Georgia too, seems like people have good luck finding rust free cars there. Once you find one, I'm sure you can find someone on here from the area to check it out for you.

Late to the party here, but you made the right decision. the underside of that car was GONE. was good only as a parts car.

try searchtempest.com plenty of E30s out there. I see a bunch in Louisiana of all places, dirt cheap compared to other states. no idea why.

                      good luck

I'm from where the rust will eat your car away, so I'm not nearly afraid of it as 99% of the people on here who will say PARTS CAR!!! over a dime sized rust spot.

That said, that car is rusty as fuck and wasn't worth touching at all. There will be others.
Actually, I think that was the first time I've ever said that on here. That the car was too rusty to be worth saving. So, that kind of says a lot right there.

I can think of only one car I've seen on here that was worse than this one. And it's right here:
